*Official* English Football Season 2009-2010

Unless Juventus and Milan make some serious signings, and I guess to an extent Roma as well, Benitez would have quite a task at his hands in not winning Serie A.

Marco Tronchetti Provera (President of Pirelli and Inter board member) seems to think the world of Benitez.

I'm sold on this Koscielny guy. Seen him play twice on Setanta and he looks like the type of player a Lyon or OM would buy and then fleece to an English or Spanish club a couple of years later. As long as we buy an experienced guy to replace Gallas, this guy and Djourou (haha) are a nice backup pair.

Schwarzer rumours can go **** themselves.

Just would rather not be taking a risk in a season this pivotal on the odd chance that in a couple of years time Chesney will be good enough.

Better than them for sure but still not convinced he can do it at a big club. Should be aiming higher imo.

True enough, but how many of the really top profile keepers would either consider joining Arsenal/or could be afforded by Arsenal? Not many I would wager.

I'm not suggesting that Arsenal should buy Schwarzer by any means, his advancing years mean that he's probably only like to have a season or two left in him anyway, but I can't imagine he would do any worse than our current crop. So whilst I wouldn't really be in favour of his signing, I wouldn't object to it either. That said, I doubt it will happen, for better or worse.

He won 2 with Valencia. In fact, he's only got 1 less top-3 league title than Wenger but with a CL title and a UEFA cup to boot. Benitez is without a doubt one of the best coaches in the world. It's not even debatable IMO. Was he right for Liverpool? In the end, no. He was more than good though and if circumstances off the pitch were better we'd have had a much better shot with him. The guy gave his all and that's what the fans acknowledged and that's what GIMH has picked up on. We knew that, for the most part, he'd not leave a stone unturned and he wanted Liverpool to succeed as much as anybody else. Right now, from my own contact with Liverpool fans, it seems they feel they have few people actually working for the club who are on their side. Dalgish being, probably, the only one. We have two owners we don't want; a newbie in Purslow and a Chelsea fan running the club.
His errors were pretty obvious though. Bought crap players, fielded weakened sides in must-win games, sporadically failed to organise the side against set-pieces effectively and rotated his squad far too much. I don't really see why he wouldn't make the same mistakes at Inter. Although obviously at Valencia he was doing something right, so who knows.

Though I quite like Benitez and think he did a good job with Valencia, it is safe to say that he inherited a side that was already pretty formidable. Canizares, Baraja, Angloma, Ayala, Aimar, Kily Gonzalez, Vincente and Albelda were all pretty good and formed a very decent backbone to the side, and the fringe players in the side like Mista, Curro Torres and Angulo were not half bad either.

I really really want to believe this.

Would be a great move and along with Chamakh a good start to the summer.
Think we all just have to sit tight with Joe Cole. Some places are saying he's signed for us last week, other say he will sign, others say he won't etc etc.
Bookies have Spurts as the favourites and Jon Cross has been saying for weeks we're not in for him.
Didn't PHW come out and say he's not on our list, as well?

Yeah, we could definitelyu do better but we sure as hell know we can do worse, as we did do last season. Make of it what you will but Schwarzer was in contention for Player of The Month more than once last season and was a massive part of Fulham's success. That's so much better than our comedy duo last season it's not even funny.

Frey? Hart? Lloris? They'd involve spending more than we usually do for a keeper but they'd all be worth it.
Hell, weren't people making noises about the likes of Kameni and Enyeama a while ago? A good World Cup and they might be a better punt in the long term.

Arsenal have been linked with Frey for over ten years now, literally more than a decade! I would have loved for him to join, as he'is been a favourite of mine ever since I saw him play for Parma, but I really think that ship has sailed. Lloris is pretty much one of the hottest goalkeeping talents in Europe at the moment, he would be a great signing, but something tells me the price tag will rule him out. Hart would be good though, depends who else is in for him really, if Man Utd come up with a similar offer I imagine he would opt for them over us.

Find it hard to believe that he'd sign on for only £80k/week (even with the incentives) given he's apparently been offered that by Chelsea and wants 50% more.

Then again, this rumour won't go away so it might have some truth. And TBF if Arsenal can add both Chamakh and Cole to their squad for a combined transfer fee of zero pounds, you'd have to call that an excellent start to their transfer business.
