"Reasonable"?????Yeah but this is LIVERPOOL fans we are talking about.
Anyway Benitez for all his failings is clearly not a terrible manager, did well with Valencia of course, take out this season and he has done a reasonable job with Liverpool on the whole.
This isn't true in my experience of Anfield regulars. In any case, there was far from universal agreement on the subject.Yet if you speak to anyone who goes to watch Liverpool week-in, week-out they'd have him stay there for a long, long time.
Yeah, opting for tactics that were adjudged to be the most likely to prevent defeat. Disgraceful.I love the way Clown gets full credit for a trophy won where the side was built on defending (as most Champions League winners have). They got the breaks with getting a lead, then sat on it for the rest of the tie. Clown inherited that. It was the players that got them the trophy. They came back from 3-0 down. Despite that they still needed more luck with penalties because they decided to sit on 3-3, which I still think was a disgrace personally.
All Clown's done is unravel their squad and defensive capability season by season. They could neither attack or defend at the end of his tenure. He spend millions ****ing things up. What a guy.
How many league titles did Rafa win..........."Reasonable"?????
How many Champions League titles did Jose win with the biggest spending club in history?
Nil, zip, nada, none, sweet **** all and, what's more, he was canned because his teams played ugly football in the process
I've no love for Liverpool but Rafa is hardly just "reasonable"
Disagree - IMO you can judge things much better at the game than on TV.This isn't true in my experience of Anfield regulars. In any case, there was far from universal agreement on the subject.
I also don't really agree that those most emotionally invested in their club know what's best for it. It's certainly true in the case of Tranmere and Barnes, but Liverpool are an entirely different proposition because many more neutrals watch them play regularly. Most critics were offering up the opinion that Barnes should stay despite probably not having watched a single Tranmere game while he was in charge. It's a charge that can't really be leveled at most of those neutrals who say Benitez had to go; your average footy fan watches a sizeable chunk of Liverpool matches and is perfectly capable of forming an opinion. Personally I'd generally prefer the opinion of a well-informed neutral over that of a well-informed Liverpool fanatic.
It's also worth mentioning that it seems that the players wanted rid of him too.
They'd scored 3 goals in about 10 minutes, Milan were all over the place. Yep... I know lets sit right back and play for penalties.Yeah, opting for tactics that were adjudged to be the most likely to prevent defeat. Disgraceful.
Yes, you're right. Turned out to be a terrible decision. They'd scored 3 goals in about 10 minutes, Milan were all over the place. Yep... I know lets sit right back and play for penalties.
Even an idiot gets lucky sometimes.Yes, you're right. Turned out to be a terrible decision.
He won 2 with Valencia. In fact, he's only got 1 less top-3 league title than Wenger but with a CL title and a UEFA cup to boot. Benitez is without a doubt one of the best coaches in the world. It's not even debatable IMO. Was he right for Liverpool? In the end, no. He was more than good though and if circumstances off the pitch were better we'd have had a much better shot with him. The guy gave his all and that's what the fans acknowledged and that's what GIMH has picked up on. We knew that, for the most part, he'd not leave a stone unturned and he wanted Liverpool to succeed as much as anybody else. Right now, from my own contact with Liverpool fans, it seems they feel they have few people actually working for the club who are on their side. Dalgish being, probably, the only one. We have two owners we don't want; a newbie in Purslow and a Chelsea fan running the club. How many league titles did Rafa win...........
Yea of course he's one of the best based on a relatively short spell at Valencia when they won the league twice in a country where it's a very distant 2nd to the Champions League. Oh and he won a cup that's a very distant 3rd to the Champions League. Awesome. Those achievements alone make up for being an unbridled ****wit at Liverpool for 5 years and clearly are enough to promote above all those morons who've gone and managed sustained success and actually built up a club over decades. I mean why would you rate any of those peasants above a bearded clown who's had three good seasons with inherited teams and many more bollock laden ones.He won 2 with Valencia.
