I think they will pick him if Slater is suspended. I doubt they will throw a rookie in the firing line, just on principle.

NSW team announced. 21 players named due to injuries and judiciary matters.

Barrett
M Cooper
Creagh
Dugan
Ennis
Gallen
Gidley
Hayne
Hindmarsh
Idris
King
TLL
Lewis
B Morris
O'Donnell
Pearce
B Scott
Tahu
Waterhouse
Weyman
White

Chairman of selectors mentioned that Beau Scott was under an injury cloud so presumably one or 2 of Cooper and Tahu will be missing out. Can only assume Idris is going to be on the bench. What a joke.

Mentioned also that Dugan is under an injury cloud, so where's Coote? Still a stronger team imo.

Paul Gallen and Trent Barrett, Beau Scott, Nathan Hindmarsh, Luke O'Donnell and Jason King in. Brett Kimmorley, Jamie Lyon and Josh Perry out.

I reckon NSW have picked a pretty strong squad, and probably a smarter one than the first game. Some real weapons to unsettle QLD like Pearce, Dugan & Hindmarsh. Will be interesting to see what happens at the judiciary and the subsequent 17 that is named.

Interesting to select 21 players. I guess Dugan, Scott, Hayne and Lewis are the players under in injury/suspension concerns. If so would make for interested first choice like up.

1. J Hayne/ T Barrett
2. J Dugan/M Cooper
3. T Tahu
4. J Idris
5. B Morris
6. K Gidley
7. M Pearse
8. M Weyman
9. M Ennis
10. T Leroyd-Lahrs
11. T Waterhouse
12. B Cregh
13. L Lewis/ N Hindmarsh

14. B White
15. J King
16. P Gallen
17. B Scott/ L O'Donnell

Reckon that a pretty decent first 17, if I'm right. But who knows, who first choice and 2nd choice. Though who ever plays still will have no chance against Queensland.

Really?

I would have thought it would be more like this.

1. Hayne/Gidley
2. Dugan
3. Tahu
4. B Scott/Cooper
5. Morris
6. Barrett
7. Pearce
8. Weyman/White (thought White was going to the judiciary though)
9. Ennis
10. TLL
11. Hindmarsh (reckon he'll start)
12. Gallen
13. Lewis/O'Donnell

14. Gidley/Idris
15. King
16. Waterhouse
17. Creagh

White, Idris, O'Donnell, Cooper to miss out in the best case.

Laurie Daley - "You can probably assume that 4 will miss out and 1 will be the 18th man." The guy is a walking lobotomy advertisement.

Can't see Gidley on the bench. So reckon they will start with him at 5/8 and put him at fullback if Hayne is out and Barrett at 5/8. You wouldn't have Barrett at fullback.

Gut feeling is that Hindmarsh and O'Donnell will come in for injuries or supsensions. Apart from the guys that got dropped or are already injuried I don't think they will change the side much from game one.

Have a feeling they've seen the light with Gidley. Gidley has been woeful every time he's played in the halves this year, and Laurie Daley didn't seem particularly impressed with him against Penrith on Saturday. Question is whether they want Hayne as 1st choice fullback, but Dugan in the side could suggest that Gidley could be at 14 even if Hayne does get suspended.

Another question is who would be captain if Gidley starts on the bench. Hayne? Hindy? Gallen? Lewis? Barrett?

From what Daley and Bellamy have said I've pieced this together as my guess as what's going on.

1. Hayne
2. Tahu
3. Scott
4. Cooper
5. Morris
6. Barrett
7. Gidley
8. Weyman
9. Ennis
10. White
11. Creagh
12. Waterhouse
13. Gallen

14. Lewis
15. King
16. TLL
17. Pearce

18. Dugan - will go to bench if Hayne is suspended; Gidley to fullback; Pearce to start at half
19. Hindmarsh - on standby for either Lewis or Weyman
20. O'Donnell - see Hindmarsh; not sure which is which
21. Idris - will go straight into the centres if Scott's out

Definitely not what I'd pick but I reckon it's probably a little bit better than the Game I team.

Mitch Pearce?

He doesn't dominate for the Roosters, how's he meant to go in Origin? They're picking him on nothing other than a hope and a prayer. Another Laurie Daley special.

DWTA. Thought he's been pretty good this year. Who would you put ahead of him?

No way he should be picked. It needs to be made clear that leaving the code means leaving things like SOO and whatnot irrespective of how good the money is.
Agreed.

Later this year, he'll be going out to schools and urging kids to play AFL instead of league. And yet, we still pick him for Origin. What other employer would do that? That he still has a contract with the Broncos, is just that - a contract with the Broncos. Why would you reward someone for jumping ship by selecting them in the jewel in the crown of your own sport - SOO. It doesn't seem there is any downside for him jumping ship.

He announced his switch after the 3rd game IIRC.

Even from a self-interest perspective, it's not like a winger is integral to our chances of victory.

We'd lose little if we replaced one winger Folau, with another Tuquiri.

It's just the principle of it - how you could pick a guy who was promoting your main rival just one week ago, and will be doing so aggressively in schools for the next four years, is beyond me.

Play Barrett at 7 and Gidley 6, or vice versa, assuming Hayne gets off, as he obviously should.

Love how Slater wasn't cited for his elbow. No contact eh? Funny how you can see Hayne's upper body jerk forward at the exact moment of the phantom elbow.

They should both play. There shouldn't be carry over points at all imo. If an incident doesn't warrant suspension, then that should be the end of it. Look at what happened to Cameron Smith a couple of years ago, missing the GF for a minor thing which, but for carry overs, he wouldn't have missed a game for.

Dire.

Agreed

Putting two separate incidents together (neither of which of themselves warranted a suspension) to equal a suspendable offence, is ridiculous.

It's like being caught twice doing 59km in a 60km zone, and being hit for a speeding offence.
