*Official* English Domestic Season Thread 2010

Cricketer Of The Year
Sussex effectively 138-7 at lunch (there's an extra day to play as well).

Although we had a great start to the season, it's been purely down to the bowlers. The batting really hasn't fired all season. Apparently they're using a new ball in Div 2 ("Tiflex" or somesuch), and conditions have generally favoured ball over bat, but even so we've underperformed pretty wretchedly against some very ordinary bowling attacks. Hopefully Yardy and Wright should strengthen the batting when they return to the side.

We paid the price against Middlesex and it looks as though we're going to pay the price again against the Steelboks.

Anyway my hope today is for us to struggle to a 200 run lead and hope that we can quickly roll them over.

If Onions doesn't manage to get any cricket before Australia, then Simon Jones could actually trump him to a place in the side. He's coming along nicely in the nets for Hampshire, and if he's finally sorted his injury problems, and gets some wickets for us late season he could definitely be up there. If he's fit I'd be far more confident in his ability than I would in say Plunkett, Bresnan, Sidebottom or Shahzad. I'd be pretty happy with us going to Australia with Anderson, Broad, Jones, Finn and Bresnan as seam bowlers if Onions doesn't manage to get fit and find some cricket.
lets wait to see if he even manages a run of county games before we even think about that.

Hmm Stokes scoring those runs on TV pretty much guarantees him an England call-up.

Shame about Onions being injured, hopefully Harmison, Plunkett and whoever else can provide the strong seam bowling that's been lacking so far. It'll help Blackwell and Borthwick a lot to have that sort of support.

Yorkshire going to lose again at Taunton on the last day to a ridiculous run chase.Shouldn't have bothered declaring as the chances of bowling a side out in less than a day there are virtually nil anyway.:@

**** Ervine gone, 99 to get with 5 wickets left. If we lose this we are going down.
213-6, wouldn't rule out the draw now though it certainly wasn't what I was expecting earlier.

Worcs should win, only want another 60 despite a hundred by Park and more stickability from the Derbyshire tail.

Make it 214/7. Surely Hants cant mess this up?

Hildreth taking the game away from Yorkshire, they had the chance to bat positively last night and take the game out of Somerset's hands. Positive batting and Yorkshire don't go together though.

Of course we can, we have pretty much every other match.

Would actually be more iritated if we draw, we need a win not 3 points for ****s sake.

Listening now and it is not pleasant.

Gale swans off to play for the Lions for a few days, leaving Rudolph to make the winner of the worst declaration of the season award a foregone conclusion.

God this is close now, Mckenzie might just win it yet, all his poor form will forgiven in an instant if he does.

Got to go to work any minute though, so will have no idea who won/draw until I get back

Oh well we were bound to lose at some point but the fact we threw away this game with a stupid declaration is bloody annoying.I don't mind being beaten by a better side but gifting a win to the opposition is pathetic.:@

Haha Gloucsestershire. Losing by an innings to Glamorgan after making 400 in your first innings and when they're without Harris. Good effort that.

Hampshire look to have crossed the line, need just 8 more runs with 2 wickets in hand. Season turning match/innings for them and McKenzie? Will have to wait and see. Could be big for them come the end of the season though.

Always nice to see they've retarmaced the surface at Taunton

Warks fell short of their target against Lancs, though Trott did make 150. Promising signs for the Test team there, along a similar line Strauss made his second half century of the match for Middlesex beofre getting out shortly after. Make of that what you will.

Extraordinary innings from Jaques in Worcs' chase. 94(57) chasing 126

Can basically all be summed up by "Ramps "

 Neil McKenzie. He's been pretty damn terrible so far this season, but he's made up for it with that knock. I checked the scorecard earlier, when McKenzie was batting with Ervine and thought we were done for, so didn't bother checking again, but delighted to see we pulled out the victory. Hopefully this match'll give us some confidence and start some sort of run. We just need the batsmen to find some consistency and the bowlers to find some killer instinct. We've got potential to go decently this year, just need to get a couple of our injured players back, find some consistency and get a run going.
