If the choice is now or never, then obviously the answer is never. You cant have players pulled from their Counties and the supposedly serious business of the CC (and before anyone makes a comment, it is still very serious business to a lot of people) to play in a pointless friendly when other opposition could easily fill the role.

If I was a County or a player then I would be fuming.

Until recently though, the touring side used to play MCC, which was basically an England A side. Pretty sure they didn't only select from counties which had no game that week.

Carter teeing off again for Warwickshire.Making Lancs sweat a little anyway and less than 150 to win now.Could be an interesting finish there.

Yorkshire flying at nearly a run a ball this morning.I guess they'll be looking for 350 as a lead before declaring.

Yes I'll be keeping an eye on that Lancs - Warks game, it's looking pretty straightforward for Durham on Sky.

Ramprakash is only the second Surrey batsman to make a double and a hundred in the same match (bit surprised that Hobbs never did) - the other is about to open the Middlesex innings with Strauss.

I'm listening to the Warwickshire game now instead of the Yorkshire one.Carter is having a great season for such an ordinary player.

If these two can get them within 100, I rather think Warks will be favourites.

Looks as if Kent have given it up now - have to feel for Rob Key after the way he played on Monday. There can't have been many higher scores made by a batsman on the losing side.

And Zaremba will be fretting if he's watching the scores this morning - Sussex have lost four wickets and are effectively 82-6. Bubble burst already?

Big shock seeing Sussex flop like they are, especially having steamrolled their way through the opening 4 wins.

Warwickshire getting close now 106 to win with Trott and Carter still going.Great effort by Warwickshire whatever happens now but there will be an almighty enquiry in the visitors dressing room if they lose this one after not enforcing the follow on.

Stokes tucking into some high-class leg-spin bowling from Joe Denly. Every ball in the over goes for a boundary, with 1 six and 5 fours. Very clean hitting, looks a seriously talented young player.

It'll be good to have Stokes and Woakes in the England side in due course - don't think we've had a rhyming pair since the days of Dilley and Willey. :)

Yorkshire declare on 333-4,Somerset need 362 to win.Don't like this in 4 day games when weather hasn't intervened.

Warwickshire need less than 100 now and the century stand is up.:-O

:( Graham Onions has a stress fracture of the back, and required knee surgery on his left knee too. He's definitely going to be out of cricket for 3 months, but is aiming to be fit for the Ashes. Hope he has a solid recovery and gets back to full fitness soon.

Yep, that was the case and as far as Im concerned, it was a good situation.

If Onions doesn't manage to get any cricket before Australia, then Simon Jones could actually trump him to a place in the side. He's coming along nicely in the nets for Hampshire, and if he's finally sorted his injury problems, and gets some wickets for us late season he could definitely be up there. If he's fit I'd be far more confident in his ability than I would in say Plunkett, Bresnan, Sidebottom or Shahzad. I'd be pretty happy with us going to Australia with Anderson, Broad, Jones, Finn and Bresnan as seam bowlers if Onions doesn't manage to get fit and find some cricket.

Tahir gone, and now Trott has to do it with a rookie with a career tally of 16 runs, and a number 11 whose 25 matches have brought him more wickets than runs.

The match at Trent Bridge is worth keeing an eye on too - Hants 77-2 chasing 281.
