Blizz won't walk into a spot, but should put a huge amount of pressure on some of the incumbents. Has smashed around district attacks for a long time, except for this year. Time is right for him to have a crack elsewhere.
Would be the first time in a while a player has moved to SA and not been in the XI first game of the season, tbh. Personally reckon Smith should watch out and, obv, Cosgrove's spot is free. Some young batters will be pushing this year but I doubt they'd be tried first game.

Yeah decent signings from SA so far, Cassell is a good one for mine and Blizzard could be a really good or really bad signing IMO but I would much rather Smith in the SS team over Blizzard, I really rate young Smithy. I Haven't heard anything about Cullen, but I'm hoping he sticks at it in grade cricket in Adelaide just for next season because he can be great at his best. Apparently in the off season these days he is working with a spin coach up in QLD ( he wouldn't name the coach though ) to get back to his old bowling style so a move to QLD could be on the cards aswell as other states. Looks like Cosgrove is deafinately leaving then, so I can assume he is gone?

Interested to see what the SA side will look like for next season, I'll do my little " prediction " soon for what the team will be or what I think should be. I'd like to see what Top Cat, Riggins ect, think the SS and OD teams should be to.

Brockley, around what time do the 2nd round contracts get released/finalised?

Kylez mate, most 1st team contracts haven't been finalised yet. :p

That unless they aren't on CricInfo, though.

Haha yeah I know, but SA's are likely to be released earlier than all the other states and I'd just like to know aswell. Brockley knows pretty much everything thats going on and all the dates of things aswell.

Change of leadership at the Redbacks, good move I reckon but we all knew it was coming really. Klinger has been made captain and Ferguson has been made vice captain. Both good choices but I hope the captaincy doesn't affect Klinger's batting.

Maybe Ferguson should of been captain?

Article:

Michael Klinger and Callum Ferguson have today been named as the new leadership team for the West End Redbacks.

Klinger will take on the role of captain, while Ferguson is the new vice-captain.

SACA director of cricket Jamie Cox and Redbacks coach Mark Sorell announced the positions today, saying both men were strong leaders and ideally suited to guiding the Redbacks through the coming season.

“Both have outstanding qualities which we believe are important as leaders, and we are confident they can provide a really strong direction for the player group” Mr Cox said.

“We have expressed the need for change within our culture. These two men are both enormously respected throughout the cricket community for the way they prepare and play the game and I know they will develop into a very strong leadership team.”

Mark Sorell said plans were now underway to have the team meet next month and begin intensive pre-season training.

“I am looking forward to working with Michael and Callum, helping them grow as leaders and get involved with the team’s development this season” Mr Sorell said.

MICHAEL KLINGER - CAPTAIN
DOB: July 4, 1980
CLUB: Kensington

Klinger, 29, secured the State Player of the Year title for the past two years. He also claimed the Lord Hamden Trophy for the best player in the Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield competition and the James Irwin Trophy for most runs in all First Class matches.

CALLUM FERGUSON - VICE CAPTAIN
DOB: November 21, 1984
CLUB: West Torrens

Ferguson, 25, is completing rehabilitation after a serious knee injury sustained while on Australian duties in New Zealand in October 2009. A stylish batsman, who Australian captain Ricky Ponting last year tagged as Australia's next Test cricketer in waiting, will begin pre-season training with the squad mid-May.

Hmmmm, looks like Choc's knee is worse than first thought.
Yeah, knee injuries are the worst. Even when you get back to playing cricket they can still affect you. Mathew Elliot, think Di Venuto had a knee problem aswell, not to mention the likes of Flintoff ect.

My SA teams for next season. My opinions on these teams are likely to change but I'm bored in class at school so I decided to post this.

SS shield team:

Harris
Smith
Klinger
Borgas
Ferguson
O'Brien
Manou ( if he is a 100% fit. )
Christian
Cleary
George
Cassell ( not to sure on this one, Haberfield would be 2nd choice )

ODD team:

Blizzard
Klinger
Cooper
Ferguson
Christian
O'Brien
Manou ( I'd be tempted to play Ludeman though )
Duval/Cleary
Haberfield
Putland
Tait

You could slot Borgas in for a pace bowler if you wanted.

As much as I like George I'm not sure if he should be in the ODD team, and I don't know if Tait has given up FC cricket or not. Also I haven't looked to play any of the Cullens this season either. Some people's opinions on this will probably differ to mine though. Hoping I haven't forgotten any players either...Richardson will probably break into the team around mid season.

Kylez, may I ask why you wouldn't want George in the One Day side? Better option than Putland and probably Haberfield imo.

Is George actually a terrible fielder? I have only ever watched him from the outfield do the general skills like collect the flicks down to fine leg.

If he is that bad, then tough to select both Tait and George in the ODD side. Very hard to hide two poor fielders, only justifiable if George is going to be a complete gun ODD bowler.

Just saw the news about Klinger and just thought about how much the Australian Jewish News is going to absolutely love it. I seem to have said that quite a few times as of late, which goes to show how well Klinger's been playing really, more than anything else.

Batting/fielding. Paul Rofe had the same problem.
Haha, his batting is pretty garbage. But I've never seen him field badly tbh. Not amazing by any means, but competent. And he has a lot more potential than Rofe for mine.

Riggins

International Captain
I am very interested to see how Klinger handles the captaincy, does he have much experience (vic-orth?) and whether it will affect his batting, surely it couldn't improve it. He strikes me as a pretty quiet type of personality, just worries about his own game and putting performances on the board, and whilst he obviously sets a great example I am not sure, but that said, he could be awesome, time will tell.

I will give it a shot, but realise this is hypothetical if i was the only selector etc.

1. Smith
2. Harris
3. Klinger
4. Ferguson
5. Cooper/Blizzard
6. Christian
7. Manou
8. O'Brien
9. Cleary/Putland/Haberfield
0. Cassell (wildcard, haven't actually seen him bowl yet)
1. George

However i think i would be trying to get coop/blizz into that middle order spot, so not sure whether i would want another opener or borgas to open or klinger etc. would have to think about that and talk **** over with the lads.

But yeah, my 2 cents, if anyone was interested.(probably not)

Well being honest, I actually do want him in the side because I love watching him bowl, but I just can't see him picked at all by the SA selectors....unless there are injuries. His batting and fielding aren't the best and he is still improving his one day bowling because he bowls a bit to much line and length and sometimes a tad short. Has bowled some gun spells though in OD cricket.

Is that side you just named for ODD or the 4 day team?

Y no Afghanistan flag
The fact that George got called up to NZ for the Test Squad makes it seem absolute mad that he's not making some peoples SACA XI in OD.

I know it's a different format, but you should be picking your two best pace bowlers, who cares how your no 10 and 11 bat.
