Have you considered playing club cricket in England in the future? I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Surely he has a few years left in him at state level. He's still the most accomplished spinner in the country at the moment, and a spinner could play until they hit 40.

Will come as a huge surprise if McGain calls retirement.

Hardly had a long career at the top level, and was still bowling superbly at times last year. I'd like him to keep playing until Holland (or other) forces him out of the side.

VICTORIAN opening batsman Nick Jewell wants to be released from the last year of his contract so he can pursue a coaching career.

Jewell, 32, the only member of the Bushrangers squad to to have played every first-class game during the past four seasons, made the request to Cricket Victoria yesterday.

He scored 3920 runs at an average of 37.69, including six centuries, in 61 games.

"Coaching has been my passion for the past couple of years and now is the time to go," Jewell said yesterday.

The tall right-hander, who followed his famous father Tony's footsteps into the AFL and played a single senior game for Richmond in 1997 before focusing on cricket, has battled degenerative back problems for two years.

Jewell will become a batting consultant for the Bushrangers and Victorian Cricket Academy, and continue to captain-coach Frankston in Premier League cricket.

Blizzard a very good pick up. Going nowhere for Victoria, less and less likely to play Sheffield Shield cricket at the years moved on.

I believe he will do well for a new state, wouldn't surprise me if in 5 years time someone makes the comment "why did Victoria ever let him go?".

Blizz won't walk into a spot, but should put a huge amount of pressure on some of the incumbents. Has smashed around district attacks for a long time, except for this year. Time is right for him to have a crack elsewhere.

Any news on Dan Cullen? Surely he will move interstate, attempt a grade career elsewhere otherwise his career is other.

Cricket ACT overhauls Twenty20
BY JAMES BUCKLEY, CRICKET
29 Apr, 2010 07:58 AM
Cricket ACT has taken the next step to inclusion in the nation-wide Big Bash tournament by approving a revamped Twenty20 competition for season 2010-11.
All eight clubs in the association have agreed to a radical overhaul of the game in Canberra, which includes replacing the traditional one-day Konica Cup with a season-long Twenty20 competition.

Limited-overs matches will now be intertwined with the two-day fixture list, meaning every club will play each other once in both forms of the game over summer.

The annual Twenty20 Big Bash tournament currently includes every first-class state, but Cricket Australia is considering an expansion to include two more teams. With Canberra eager to secure its spot in the Big Bash, Cricket ACT chief executive Mark Vergano said restructuring the local competition was a step in the right direction.

''Before we were quite happy to sit back and run a one-weekend knockout [Twenty20 competition], suddenly the door's open for potentially a whole lot of other things,'' Vergano said.

''The clubs themselves realise the game itself is moving into a new space and they want to be part of that space.

''It fully incorporates all three forms of the game now whereas before we were paying lip service to it. People see that the concept is not a fly-by-night, it's here and there are opportunities.''

For the past four seasons, the Canberra competition has featured a Twenty20 knock-out competition run over a single weekend
