Don't know why Durham are so keen to give their 5-an-over bowlers so much time to let the opposition get away, Blackwell invariably keeps it tight and takes wickets. Why bother bowling anyone else if you don't have to.

True, though Blackwell has bowled a lot from the one end and the runs have flowed from the other.Plunkett has had one of his poor days and he always goes for lots on them so bowling him as much is a surprise.

Ominous for Durham that the spinners are the ones looking most likely to get wickets and Yorkshire have a couple of good ones and a probable good total to bowl with.

214-2 at tea.Great platform to go on and get the maximum batting points.

Didn't know Ntini was playing county cricket. Couple of months with Kent and he will be back in the test side.

Another excellent start for Yorks, the depth of Durham's bowling unit looking really stretched now, big opportunity for Yorkshire to put some real pressure on them in this game. Mark Davies has now gone 65 overs without a wicket, Rushworth is on debut, Plunkett seems to be mixing very decent balls with a fair amount of tripe this season, and Ben Stokes is still learning about first-class cricket. All hopes must fall on Blackwell to try and spin them into the game.

Yorkshire letting Durham off the hook by batting slowly either side of tea.New ball taken,no doubt they will lose a few wickets now and hand back the initiative.

Pitch check at Hove tomorrow? 15 wickets gone already today Sussex 106-5,young Buck has a couple of wickets again.

More likely a reflection of the mediocrity on both sides and Sussex's two form batsman, RMJ and Rana Naved have not batted yet.

Nice recovery from the lads. Ervine has played a vital knock and Pothas played a handy innings too. Hopefully Ervine'll bat well with the tail and get us upto a score of around 320, at least that's competitive. Then we'll just have to hope Kabir gets a couple of early breakthroughs and we bowl well.

Richard's favourite cricketer has had a decent day today. James Anyon took 2-16 with the ball, and then made 32 with the bat, which in this game is quite a decent score. What a player.

50 for Murray Goodwin, taking Sussex into what could be a big lead in the context of this match. 69 ahead now - must be already thinking in terms of four out of four.

 Just noticed that James Anyon opened the batting for Sussex today, having never batted higher than 10 (AFAIK) and never scored more than 37 before. That's not even 'makeshift.'

Yes I found out after coming out of a client conference - I assumed it might be an online scorebook error. Apparently Chris Nash had a migraine.

Sussex's lead now up to 99 with 3 wickets in hand at stumps, largely thanks to Murray G and Rana (again).

He made 32 tbf, which must have surpassed his and his team-mates' (and possibly his family's) expectations. I must admit it hadn't occurred to me that he was doing it as a stand-in, I thought he was some kind of Neil Carter-type pinch-hitter.

And does anyone know what credentials Andrew McDonald has to captain Leicestershire these days? He doesn't even captain his state does he?

I think "resolute" is the kindest word for his batting. Haven't seen him this season though. And he got a few important runs batting at 8 (above Rana) against Gloucester.

No idea about Ronald McDonald. The only time I've ever seen him on a cricket field was at Edgbaston last year when he and Brett Lee walked round the boundary carrying the drinks and the Hollies stand chanted "Even Mitch is, even Mitch is, even Mitch is better than you" which they both seemed to find quite funny

Tbf to McDonald I see he did captain Victoria for at least part of last season - I thought Chris Rogers was their skipper.
