Carney, Hayne, Mini, Tahu etc - those guys are absolute class.

They've got the makings of a good backline, the Blues.
Gotta pick the right forwards and halves. If the selectors pick the right players here and they perform strongly, there are a number of three-quarters who can do the job.

This.

Zero confidence in them doing it though.

Well they have a tough job. NSW have so many good second rowers, but no one really stands out as being great. You could get ten experts to pick their NSW team and they'd probably all have different back rows.

The other thing is there are only 3 games. A player can be in bad club form for 3 weeks and then come good and nothing is thought of it. If they play average in Game 1 of Origin they get canned.

And can I say mate, that I look at the forum index now and think "I didn't post in there a few minutes ago... Oh, hang on..."

Thanks mate. I thought the name change would make things easier, but I've also been caught out thinking 'I haven't been in that thread, let alone posted in it'.

Amazing to see Penrith 2nd at the moment, don't think anyone saw that coming.

Monday April 19

Just sayin ;) Damn Storm I would have been 8/8 :(

Just on Walsh, I know Burgey mentioned he was kick happy, but imo his biggest weakness is his long kicking game. Never gets enough distance, and puts it on the chest of the opposition more often than not. I want to see him come up with the goods in a big game too. Long way off NSW contention yet. Without Hayne in the mix I'd be thinking hard about Coote though. We have great depth at 1 all of a sudden with the emergence of him and Dugan.

Tips coming up shortly.

I'm probably wrong but I thought we won Game 3 last season. Not sure what was so bad about that side.

New South Wales
1. Kurt Gidley (c)
2. Jarryd Hayne
3. Michael Jennings
4. Josh Morris
5. David Williams (Brett Morris)
6. Trent Barrett
7. Brett Kimmorley
8. Justin Poore
9. Michael Ennis
10. Josh Perry
11. Ben Creagh
12. Trent Waterhouse
13. Anthony Watmough

Interchange
14. Brett White (Micheal Weyhman)
15. Craig Wing (Greg Bird)
16. Glenn Stewart
17. Tom Learoyd-Lahrs

Add in Brett Morris for David Williams, Bird or Carney in for Wing and Weyhman for White and you have pretty good side imo.

Thoughts on this team?

1. Hayne
2. B Morris
3. Lyon
4. J Morris
5. Minichiello
6. Gidley
7. Kimmorley
8. Weyman
9. Farah
10. Perry
11. Creagh
12. Hindmarsh
13. Gallen

14. Waterhouse
15. Watmough
16. Poore
17. Ennis

Just off the top of my head. I reckon NSW are pretty light on for good props, especially ones who are in form. Plenty of other second rowers could get a go too, depends on who are the selectors' favourites.

Would pass on House unless he steps up in the next few weeks. Hasn't been terrible, but we have more in form options imo. Lewis for one ;) Poore hasn't been up to it either, but as you said we're light on props.

As for Chamindas team, main problem I have with that team is that Kimmorley has been poor frankly, and Barrett only marginally better from what I've seen. Pearce has been the standout 7 for mine.

Yeah with the team I picked you could easily put in Lewis, Stewart, Laffranchi, etc. They could also go with younger props like Tolman or Douglas but they're not likely to do a better job than the more experienced blokes.

Also, I think Kimmorley is a better option than Pearce. As Chaminda said, Kimmorley is the incumbent in a winning team. Plus, in the past Pearce hasn't been up to it at Origin level, is still pretty inexperienced, and is too inconsistent at club level to really convince me he will win a series.

Front row is the biggest issue for mine as well, which why I think we need a player like Learoyd-Lahrs who can play as 4th front rower and extra backrower to cover the gaps in the front row. Though as long as you have guys that go a decent job, the backrow whoever we pick should make up for it.

On the half back front, would still like Pearce to show consistency week in week out. He has odd off game too much to be selected. Kimmorley playing behind a beated forward pack most weeks, I wouldn't read too much into his form. Given a better platform we know what he is capable off.
