Gould is massively agenda driven. He knows his stuff, but he muddies that knowledge with his bias. Perhaps I notice it more being a Panthers fan. Prefer Sterlo as a commentator tbh.
Gould does in some aspects, remind me of Ian Chappell.

Love him or loathe him, Phil Gould knows league, and I find these one-on-one interviews he does on the Footy Show bloody enlighteniing tbh. The players open up to him about the intricacies of their games more with him than seemingly anyone else.

Quality.
I agree, but he thinks EVERYTHING is planned. Like with Slater, he was talking about how great the plan was to score the try where Blair took it instead of Slater, then got it off to Slater when he drew the men in. Slater said himself, it wasn't a plan. 99/100 times Smith/Cronk (can't remember who it was) would go to Slater, on the odd occasion they don't, apparently it was planned.

Gus has to learn that not EVERYTHING is planned, like he thinks it is.

Snowden is an improved footballer over the past 12 months, but do NSW really want 2 forwards from the Sharks?

I think someone like Dan Hunt who has started the year very strongly and is playing in a winning team would be a better option.

I would go with..

1 Kurt Gidley
2 Brett Morris
3 Michael Jennings
4 Jamie Lyon
5 Jarryd Hayne
6 Greg Bird
7 Mitchell Pearce
8 Aiden Tolman
9 Robbie Farah
10 Michael Weyman
11 Luke Lewis
12 Anthony Watmough
13 Paul Gallen

14 Anthony Laffranchi
15 Dan Hunt
16 Tom Learoyd Lahs
17 Todd Carney
I know you want us to lose, but that team is a long way off from what would even be competitive. Bird at five eighth, no way. Carney off the bench? Doubt it. Gidley at fullback, no thanks.

I'll post up a side later on.

I reckon the Dragons and Tigers will win, except I'm still tossing up between the second game. I reckon the 'halfbackless' Tigers could go down to the Dogs if they turn up, except Marshalls form could easily override that. Should be a cracker.

As for the Dragons match, I wanna see the Titans get up, only cus .matt supports them.

I'm looking forward to seeing your team. Gidley is the captain, if he gets through a couple of games for the Knights he'll be starting somewhere.

Thanks Jack Gibson.. **** I hope Gus reads that. You're right, he needs to learn a few things. You're just the bloke to teach him too, I reckon.

Yeah, Gidley being captain is the worst possible thing. Mean's he has to play, and has to start. He's the favourite to be five eighth with the bookies for gods sake.

I seem to be detecting sarcasm.

So if he has to start, why not pick him in his natural position at fullback? As Simon says (lol) Hayne's defensive play is not up to scratch, so he gets a wing spot. I think the only real issues with my team is working out who should be:

a) Lyon's centre partner - is it going to be Jmoz, Jennings, Lawrence, Copper, Scott etc

b) five eight - Bird has done well at 6 in Origin, He's not been playing too good, but unless the selectors go with Soward I can't think of a better option.

c) The prop on the bench - I like Hunt, he's playing very well IMO.

d) The utility from the bench - Went for Carney, but there are heaps of options really, Laffranchi could start and Luke Lewis could be the perfect bench option.

Based on the teams proposed in here I think it'd take a brave man to back the Blues. Although 5 series on the bounce is unprecedented, isn't it? History maybe on NSW's side, even if the best backs aren't...

Thurston being out injured helps matters. If you confident in Queensland winning though, have a punt - NSW are actually strong favourites. I'd certainly be having one if I could bring myself to do it..

I think there are heaps of NSW players in form at the moment. NSW's backs are a bit underrated really, players like Morris and Lyon are in great form and outperforming say Greg Inglis.

I'm looking forward to seeing who partners Inglis in the centres and who the two wingers are for QLD this year.

I think it's going to be near impossible to not select Boyd again, even though he's not showing wingers attributes in attack for the Dragons.

I don't think I would pick Lote, tbh - Willie Tonga is in as good form for the Cowboys as Lote is for the Tigers, he would get my centre spot with Folau on the wing.

Slater, Boyd, Inglis, Tonga, Folau.

a) Does Lyon want to play this year?

b) Soward, rate him.

c) I'd rather Gidley come from the bench and play 15-20 minutes at hooker, than play the whole game from the backline/five eighth.

1. Hayne
2. Morris
3. Cooper
4. Lewis/someone I can't think of
5.
6. Soward
7. Pearce
8. Tolman
9. Farah
10. Weyman
11. Watmough
12. Gallen
13. Bird/Lewis

14. Douglas
15. Creagh
16. Laffranchi
17. Gidley

Can't think of a second winger, might have to put a utility on the bench, Gidley to fullback, and Hayne on the wing, TBH. I really like Creagh, want him in the side, but I wouldn't be fussed if a good alternative was selected.

Yes Lyon wants to play this year.
Lyon keen on NSW Origin captaincy

It's funny with Douglas, cause I used to really like him, but now I just think he's a good first grader footballer in a struggling team who is only really getting recognition cause he's played 100 straight games.

I like Creagh too, he will probably play for NSW, a bit unlucky to not make my team. I agree that there isn't too many good wingers to pick (Uate would go okay) so that's why I think Gidley at 1 and Hayne on the wing.

Just Can't work out the Tigers this season. Tip them to win, they lose, tip them to lose, they win. Very frustrating.

Fair enough, I'd be happy with Lewis on the wing, Folau's wing, as well as Lyon in the centers. Lyon as captain > Gidley.

Not saying Lewis is a great defender either, he's overrated by Gus and whoever else, but he could probably do the job on the wing.
