Wicket count up to 22 at Bristol, I make it about four overs left. Loye had a day to forget with 4 and 0.

Could be, doesn't always follow though. Sometimes the inspector concludes it was just poor batting/ overhead conditions. Anyone who was planning a trip to the County Ground on Saturday is likely to be disappointed though.

Rogers out for 3 for Derbyshire; caught behind of Hoggard.

Struggling to get over that Gloucs batting effort, just shocking really. Even if conditions are poor Northants still managed a full 100 runs more in their first innings.

Shame Woakes didn't add to his 3 early wickets, especially when Neil Carter (:puke:) ended up with 3 as well. Trott grapped two for himself!

My sources suggest that Harinath's 50 off 243 balls is the slowest in county championship history. Can this be true?

I was listening to the on-line commentary earlier and it was suggested that it might be, or else the Jamie Hall effort alluded to earlier. Hall's innings was recorded as 304 minutes which you would expect to be around 230 balls.

Actually, reading the article again, it seems like Hall took 228

Hall jolted everybody by taking a quick single off the 228th ball of his innings which took him to his sixth Championship half-century of the summer
Admittedly, the article quotes a lot of different figures, and CricketArchive seems to have settled on 302 minutes. Not the sort of thing one tends to keep track of

Lara for Surrey?

From the BBC.

The great man already practicing in the nets with a view to a 2020 contract.

The fanboy in me is made up at the chance to see the master at work once more.

Would be great to see the real Brian Lara again but is it really possible?

I'd hate to see him being dictated to by county trundlers

I guess that's always a chance with comebacks; anno domini the one opponent that makes bunnies of the best.

I'd hope BCL (a man not devoid of ego, by pretty much every account) would be honest and protective enough of his reputation to know if his game could make it up to scratch or not tho.

Fairly sure he could still smash it aboiut it a bit in 2020, there are a few county pro's still around doing fine at his age.

They might get away with it by saying the volcano ash in the air overhead was causing the ball to hoop round corners...

Oddly, no wickets yet at Bristol, and the night-watchman seems to be batting with considerable comfort.
