It's nicely set up for an epiphany for RHB against his old club. I predict a hundred for him.

ps Not 100% sure I know what epiphany means.

Anyhow the 'Rey are 22/3 and I can't help feeling that two clubs' seasons are going to be determined by the next couple of hours' play.

Why the hell is Smith still opening?

It clearly didn't work last year so not sure why it will this year. He should be batting at 6/7 not up agaisnt the new ball on day one!

Probably because he'd looked like he was getting the hang of it just before he picked up an injury and missed most of the rest of the year, Horton wanted to drop down to number 3(he was only really a converted opener) and we don't have anyone else who they think would do better.

Bresnan gets 3 wickets after lunch to put Somerset on the back foot.

139-5 now but Trescothick is still there on 81.

Sussex keep their foot on the throats of Surrey 97-5

Slurrey back above 2 runs per over at Hove thanks to Schofield. Hilariously bad. This even with a load of extras.

Anyone know what the slowest 50s are in recent seasons? Harinath 47* off 229 balls at the moment.

Interesting happenings at Bristol. Northants 186 (Rob White 95); Gloucs 85/8 12 single figure scores so far.

Pitch inspectors time?

Meanwhile, Hampshire are 350/3 at the Parks, 200 yards away. Can I be bothered to go watch Neil McKenzie for an hour?

Go watch Vince bat with him.

Typical 'first class' but at least some of those who failed against Essex have got some batting practice, think Carberry and Mckenzie both gone on too long though, no need to get more than 100.

CBA taking over. Will probably spend much of the day there on Saturday at least, so will prob see much of Hants' second dig.

Worcs 140/6 against Leeds/Bradford before 110 from 18-year-old Bromsgrove schoolboy Ben Cox dug them out. One to watch?
