Vinoo Mankad- A true Indian legend and responsible for India's first test win to a large extent over England in madras(now Chennai).in 1952 and also responsible for India's second test series win against Newzealand
But even that was not his most famous feat-

His most famous feat was against England at Lord's in 1952 when going in first he scored 72 and 184. In the second innings he went straight to the wicket after bowling 31 overs that day. In the whole match he bowled 97 overs and took five for 231. England won by eight wickets, but Mankad's performance must surely rank as the greatest ever done in a Test by a member of the losing side.

Mankad's best performance was against England at Lord's in 1952. In the first innings he top-scored with 72. During England's first innings, he bowled 73 overs and took 5 wickets for 196 runs. In India's second innings in that Test match, he top-scored again with 184 runs out of India's total of 378. Though England won the game easily, Mankad's all-round performance salvaged India's pride in a series where they were heavily overmatched. Mankad was the first player in more than 30 years to score a 100 and take five wickets in the same Test and the first Indian to achieve this feat.

Also memorable was his role earlier in the same year against England in Madras. He took 8/52 in England's first innings and 4/53 in the second helping India beat England for the very first time in a Test match.

For a good while he was probably the best allrounder in the world.And even has a form of dismissal named after him.His record with Pankaj Roy for the highest first wicket partnership at 413 stood for 47 years only to be usurped by Smith and Mckenzie against Bangaldesh.

What was so fascinating about Mankad and which enthralls me ,he used to bowl tons of overs ,more than 50 overs in many cases in an innings and then come out to open the batting for his team.What a engine.
