The best thing about this list is the average age of 28, which I think is right. Ponting is the oldest player and there is only nine contracted players over the age of 30. I think this is very healthy for Australian cricket.

I do think though that Jaques has been treated extremely poorly.
I think Jaques is unlucky, but with his long term injury and the emergence of Hughes, the ball had to be placed in his court to bash the door back down again.

As good as Jaques is, what is the likelyhood of him playing for Australia in the next 12 months? Given he is clearly only viewed as an opening batsman he'd need two of Katich, Watson and Hughes to fall over to get a look in the test side and he's also seemingly not in the frame for the other forms. Never really had a hope imo.

He was treatly very badly 12 months ago when he missed a contract, especially considering that in the past they'd retained injured players eg Watson, Tait, Lee etc.

However, with such a dearth of FC runs this Summer, and with three openers way ahead of him, he is in my view not unlucky.

Bracken out as well. I suppose that the selectors really do think the MJ, Dougie, Hauritz, Harris, McKay, Siddle, Hilfenhaus will be our ODI attack into the WC...

If ICL were still running, then it would of been perfect for Bracken to get one last pay day. WHy did Brett Lee retain his contract, the guy is nothing but a crock at the moment.

Dave warner expected to make his call on his future today, with the likelihood he will stay with the blues on a long term contract.
Seems west sydney and geelong are etching out canberra and gold coast as to the newly expanded kfc cup.
Both are making major bids and have major backing, the west sydney games likely to be played at anz stadium.

Warner is being chased by all 5 states.
I guess then rob quiney becomes the bet buy for the off seaon, with bliard keen to move state.

Funny how players like Jaques, Rogers, D Hussey, Hodge have dominated state cricket for a long period of time but yet players like S Marsh, Ferguson, etc do **** all and get handed opportunities.

It's not that surprising when it's well-known all of them have difficult personalities.

All of them?

Haven't heard too much about Dave Hussey or Phil Jaques. And it's not as though there haven't been "difficult" personalities in the dressing room before. I think with a few of them, it really has just been wrong place at the wrong time.

They just needed the right kind of 'difficult personality'. :)

True, but I'd hazard a guess that Dussey wouldn't have had as many opportunities in the OD arena if it weren't for his personality. He's like a more extroverted, cheeky version of his brother.

Jaques was certainly not a demanding figure around the rooms, but he seemed to be fairly respected, and certainly never seemed unpopular.

Where would the Gold Coast team play? At the new AFL Stadium?

I don't think the Gold Coast have proven that they are capable of getting big enough crowds to any sport barring Rugby League. I think this expansion will be rubbish if CA doesn't think carefully about the locations of the teams.
