And the other bowlers did? Only Arnel did anything and even that was after they'd had their fun.

Team of the series

1) Katich
2) Watson
3) Hughs (didn't do great but outperformed Ponting, Sinclair and Ingram)
4) Taylor
5) Clarke
6) North
7) McCullum
8) Vettori
9) Johnson
10) Harris
11) Bollinger

With the exception of Ponting not making the team. This team could have picked itself before the series started.

Ponting in as captain TBH. Vettori was decent throughout but Ponting is coming in to a decent phase of his career now. Also reckon if you chose that team pre series you wouldn't choose North and possibly McCullum. Only Vettori and Taylor really look world class.

Of course they didn't.

But we are comparing Dan "world class" Vettori with a bunch of complete chumps *popular opinion mode*

Of course the larger point is that Vettori has been failing miserably in this regard (i.e. the regard of being a bowler who takes important wickets) for 13 years

Vettori isn't a strike bowler. Reckon we all know this, great at building pressure and if he has someone at the other end he can make the batsman make a mistake. Without Bond in the team I don't think the pressure cooker style of bowling is going to have a good few years.

On the otherside of the coin I think he is a better limited overs player than he ever has been.

You are right - I would have gone with Hussey on review.

Vettori doesn't usually come through in the 2nd inning. He has some type of mental block.
Maybe that is too strong. But he seems to have more success in 1st innings.

Biggest non-suprises for the series

Mcintosh leaving the ball and having it hit his off stump. He was flirting with this his whole inning in
Wellington.

Vettori batting well in the first test.

The entire NZ batting being inconsistent

Katich performing well.

Surprises

Mcintosh's 80

Chris martin was a surprise for me. I expected him to pick up a couple of wickets in each inning.

McCullum's century

Tuffey continues to impress with the bat.

Hussey not scoring more runs vs New Zealand.

Aussie dropping catches

Aussie being dismissed for 230.

That's quite euphemistic. Vettori is moderately difficult to score off but calling it a "pressure cooker" style of bowling is seriously overselling him.

Overselling? Thats exactly how he gets wickets, forces the opposition to give them up. This far far far more frequently happens when our attack is half decent when it's Vettori alone he is poor. Also I think you misunderstand my use of the word pressure cooker. Just as bad for NZ as it is for the opposition. The steam will burst out one way or another, a wicket or plenty of runs.

Looks like both Martin and Patel will be in the running for future tests. I can understand Patel with games in the subcontinent, there really isn't a better option. But Martin? Come on, i'd prefer Franklin.
