Hmm wonder if Ricky the chimp can conjure up another stupid arrogant declaration and end up sharing a series against lowly New Zealand...

Maybe not.

Yeah, like NZ have got a chance to get 400+ in the 2nd innings against this Australian attack  Have you watched the series to date?

Am expecting the pain to continue here. Sorry NZ bowlers but Harris, despite coming in at 10, is no mug. At his best, could be batting two places higher.

Haha, ultimate embarrassment for NZ now, getting spanked by no's 9 & 10, thank god this is the last game of the season

Wont be here to watch the afternoon session - need to buy a frying pan at the Warehouse - so I will be spared further pain from this bollocking. I'd be slightly up if I felt that our batters had enough spine to put up a decent fight in the last inning, or even - if the stars are aligned - to draw this game. But I dont, so I'm not.

Rubbing it in, mate. Rubbing it in. Will probably bat on, if possible, till about hour or so before tea.

I don't mind. The more they bat, the less time we have to. Not that I see us batting 4 sessions, but you never know.

Keep batting Australia!

Why do they not declare?
IMHO main reason is bowler workload. Minor reason is to avoid *faint* chance of the unthinkable (injury to a couple of bowlers, others bowl poorly, NZ bat well).

This summer Ponting has timed some declarations to give bowlers 1 - 1.5 sessions to stumps, then bowlers rest overnight and come back to finish off the innings in the morning. I suspect the Oz plan today was always to bat somewhere between lunch and post-lunch drinks break, then opening bowlers have normal spell with a few overs from Johnson and Hauritz before tea, then after tea Hauritz takes one end, and quicks get one 40 min spell each. So at most the quicks will bowl 12 overs today.

2 things the New Zealand selectors should have learnt from this test:

1. Martin is WAY past his prime (not that his prime was ever actually that good, bar those few tests again SA) and should never play international cricket again.

2. For all the hard work and effort Patel puts in, he simply isn't good enough, especially on NZ pitches.

I hope like hell Martin is gone after this dismal performance.

i agree with u on both. patel needs to find the form that had him running through the sl side 6 months ago. few months of first class cricket should fix that and he is only young so he'll come back stronger.
