I went for a walk right on lunch, and thought to myself that I'd expect us to be 177/8 when I got back. So anything better than that was a bonus...

Vettori sucks as a selector. I am really dissapointed with the long tail selected for this game. Taylor only went for that awful slog because he realised time was running out. One look at Southee getting a leading edge was all he needed to know.

I think at 19 years old Williamson could have paid his dues by batting at number 8. Even if he had only scored 30 runs. Taylor might have scored 50 at the other end. I would have been fine with Franklin there too.

Vettori's love affair with Patel has to end. (Even though Patel took a wicket).

Vettori isn't the only selector.

Taylor played slogs like that throughout his innings.

Dissing Patel for his contributions in this game so far is dire. At least wait until the match is over.

Williamson if selected was never going to bat 8. He would've been either #3 or #6 and both would've been bad situations for a rookie to begin his test career. Batting 10 overs to end a day, or lasting an over just before lunch when another wicket would've put us under huge pressure.

Not the best situations for a 19 year old to be brought into the game on. Let him get his feet wet in Bangladesh first.

You'd think if we scored 300 it'd be enough but then again they seem to chase down 300 vs us for breakfast, so would be pretty nervous with anything under 400. Hopefully the top order can grind out a nice score before our fairweather middle-lower order get in. Just need to play the waiting game now. Shaping up to be the match of the year so far, pity I can't watch any of it.

Loving how Rhino is taking top-order wickets right now, really bowling well. Top shelf, professional quick bowling.

Was a fairly important wicket...

1) you are right Vettori is one of three. But as the team captain I imagine the other two selectors listen to him a lot. This is my speculation only. He is the most visible face of the selectors and he was condoning this selection through the media. Perhaps it is possible he opposed it behind closed doors and got out voted.

2) Taylor did not do any wild hoiks across the line off fast bowlers until then that I saw. He was slashing through third man frequently. But nothing that outrageous. Most of his initial runs were through the off side when they showed his statistics.

3) If I give you Patel to bat at number 8 for Australia you would also be protesting his inclusion after one inning as well. Or possibly even before the game like I was.

Hauritz batting >> Patel's batting.

Would you have him (Patel) at number 8 for Aussie?
Would you pick him at number 8 for any team in the world including the Bangers if you were a selector?

If he is in the team it should be behind strong batting and he would preferrably be #10

If it wasn't clear in my original post - I will clarify now - I oppose his selection because he is in at number 8.

It was a quality day of cricket watching and I have to add the only thing I could catch was Dilmah tea party.

If he was a better bowler sure would take him at 8 .Anyone who has a first class century can't be all that bad with the bat.

Vettori, Broad, Johnson, Mahmadullah, Vaas, Lee etc.
I don't think a guy has to be anywhere near as good as most of the guys to be at number 8 to be honest.

Those are the better number 8s of the last year or so.

Guess the 30 min early start caught everyone unawares? Certainly did me!

A good referral by Watson to overturn the lbw decision went against him the 2nd ball of the day.

Crowd is very poor though.

Nearly squealed and clapped in the computer lab when I saw the score change from 85-0 to 85-1 just then.

Nearly.
