Sounds like a typical Hughes loose shot (based on Tests so far) outside off early on after a flurry of boundaries. Big early boost for Arnel.
mm thats how he bats though. Maybe let a few more go for the first time you have ever seen him but who knows

I appreciate that's how he bats, and is probably the reason he's not a permanent fixture in the Test XI at this stage. Not saying he's a bad player.

More that Watson/Katich are there i'd say. He was never dropped/excluded for his offside looseness, from his "short ball weakness"

What sort of speds is Arnel getting?
mid 130's, seems relatively slow though.

Work colleague was just outed by Simon Doull - spotted sitting on the embankment reading a racing form guide. He and Doully did a live cross a couple of weeks ago, so Doully took great delight in mentioning him.

Pretty sure offisde looseness was a contributory factor, seem to remember him being removed in this manner on a few occasions, inevitable I know as a left-hander facing a new ball. Also, a weakness against the short ball can in turn lead to problems around off stump (especially driving) as the feet don't necessarily go where you want them too. Plus his technique of trying to stay legside of the ball can lend itself to reaching for the ball and thus snicking off pretty frequently.

His problems against the short ball were well documented, but not the sole reason for missing out to Watson and Katich.

No the sole reason for his exlusion in England was the fact that Johnson had lost the plot with the new ball.

Haha gold. Will he be told not to come Monday either?

Excellent session for Australia. Pitch doesn't have much in it and NZ don't have the bowlers who can bring some thing special to the table. We have got ourselves a grind.

It's going to be a long, long day one thinks. I guess you should expect that though we instead of looking to take wickets (or encourage your bowlers to take wickets) you bowl wide instead to try and dry up the runs.
