Not everyone will agree with this but I'd have picked Andrew McDonald

He's a better bowler than McGrath, well suited by the conditions, in form with bat and ball, and has a great attitude

The guy was picked for the Ashes tour where he played in one tour game and was outstanding yet hasnt been mentioned in connection with any form of the game since

Had to quote this.

Reckon McDonald is under-rated, but a better bowler than McGrath? :p

Would probably be best if Hughes slotted in to the middle order but wouldn't mind seeing Smith get a run, as long as the selectors don't use it as an excuse to drop Hauritz, play four pacemen and use Smith as the sole spinner. Hopefully they've learnt from White in India.

I also think it’s good that they took Hughes – at least now he knows he is close, and is being rewarded for a big latter half of the summer.

I think it’s important that future stars are given encouragement and not cut adrift entirely into the wilderness, and Hughes is certainly a future star.

I think they made that mistake with Martyn in the mid-1990s when they totally cut him off, and he lost his WA almost getting dropped from his State side.

Well done Hughesy.

I think Watson's presence negates the need for Ronald.

We now have that extra bowling option, therefore Ronald must outbat Hughes, Smith, North etc for the number six spot.
Shouldnt be an issue with North - his last 8 innings have yielded the massive return of 102 runs

Glad that North got (and still is) being proven as a failure.

Should never have been picked in the first place.

Yeah how dare they persist with someone who averaged a meagre 80 in the OD domestic competition.

But in all seriousness, replace Broom with Williamson, Stewart or Watling already. I can't stand the Broom bashing :(
over 20 ODI's he has had more than a fair shot. Just one of those players who can t make the step up - at the moment anyway

So looking like this is going to be the team for tomorrow based off media reports.

Looks pretty much spot on to me, given the players within the squad.

McCullum
Guptill
Taylor
Styris
Vettori
Hopkins
Broom
Franklin
Bond
Southee
Tuffey

Australia should breed a young star-in-the-making batsman at no.6.

Just like they did with Ponting in the mid-90s, and Clarke in the mid-2000s.

I read similar, but it will be Franklin in for Broom, so no changes to the top 4
