Would just like to say that the below examples:

are about everything I'd say could be asked in terms of the "trying to nip unwanted posting in the bud". I've said that I'm very against the idea of all-threads-must-remain-title-topic-related and I will always remain so, but this sort of nudging is exactly the sort of thing that could reduce the sort of posting that most seem to object to - tired subjects and loooooong boring repeated arguments.

Hope this can be maintained, as it's not a straightforward task to moderate that sort of thing.
Goes to prove my point earlier in the thread about lack of CC based mods making a difference, imho. Jack, Clapo and Andy are around now, but like all OT dominant posters will eventually stop reading CC as the same topics get discussed again and again as well as ignoring many niche topics which just aren't that interesting to a lot of us.

Get more CC based mods, make the process more fluid (ie not just finding new mods every year when things get really dire).

I propose SJS and Jeevan.

Going to start campaigning for moderator post soon. Will need support though. Guys?

Just some grassroots action first

SJS has said before that he has no interest in doing it. jeevan is a good-quality poster and someone whose posts I always make a point of reading but he's hardly what you'd call an active member. Of course, you never know if someone is reading more than they're posting, but 1,000-odd posts in over 3 years is not a lot and not the sort of thing that suggests someone is reading the majority of threads, as a GM really needs to be doing.

I imagine none of the suitable applicants last time were CC-centric. That being said, EWS is maainly a CC guy isn't he?

Seems to be a quiet lately mind

Aye, been the person I'm most surprised has taken the do-plenty-of-modding-early-then-drop-off-as-time-goes-on route.

Has his hands full with cricsim I'd imagine. Probably comes here to get a break from that place and just post normally.

I would like to state something here forcefully. :)

Everytime a thread goes off topic it isn't bad for the posters, the thread or CC in general. People can remain on topic and be obnoxious and sometimes the discussion automatically veers a bit off topic and we have a great bit of discussion on that side subject as well.

The only important thing is for the discussion to finally come back to the topic and while on-topic or off it, it must remain civil which is what we are debating.

Taking it off topic has become an issue here because on many occasion the off topic discussion is the result of some posters keeping on dragging any debate into their favourite ranting and raving subjects. It is in this context that "stay on topic" reminders are issued by mods.

Absolutely. I'm fairly sure I'm not mistaken about there being something somewhere in the forum blurb about it being a place "to discuss cricket in a fun and friendly atmosphere"?

(If I am, BTW, I'd suggest such a blurb be added \ re-added.)

Yeah, pretty much sims every day at that place now. Understandable that he doesn't go here that much anymore.

Just like to say that I probably see myself still as a "CC" person. I keep an eye over most threads CC when I'm actively using CW*. It's just that I don't post as often as back in earlier times, because many of the threads I have already spoken on. My CW browsing time hasn't decreased over the past few years, just the posting rate.

*when I say actively using CW, I mean when in normal usage. If I go away, or miss a couple of days, I'll probably just read the first page of threads.

Yeah, true, dunno why on Earth I didn't think of that TBH.
Yeah, haven't had heaps of time of late, especially while trying to find my feet with the new CricSim schedule. The problem with the "just read the forum as you normally would and take moderation action if someone comes up" approach is that if you take a break from cricket posting you end up taking a break from moderating as well, which obviously isn't desirable. In any rate, I'm back at full capacity now, both in terms of moderating and CC-posting. You were on somewhat of a semi-hiatus a couple of weeks ago when I was last a daily poster Rich; is that over now?

I don't really see this ever happening with myself TBH. I only come here to discuss cricket, really, so if a time ever comes where I've grown completely tired of doing that I'll just stand down from my position and stop coming to the forum. I could be wrong but I don't see myself ever going down the "OT-dominant" route.
