*Official* England in Bangladesh

The Powerplay isn't 12 overs long. Razzak could have been bowled another 3 and Shakib only bowled 1 in total at that time.
Its a gamble though. Generally the tactic when a new batsman comes in in that scenario is to use your lesser bowlers a little, so you can get away with a few cheap overs in return for saving your better guys incase things go against you. Its a gamble which can go either way, Shakib and Razzak might've bowled out in your scenario and left the English with an easy task.

In any case, I think Shakib generally managed his bowlers well, excluding the bringing on of the quick at the end.

I agree with both points of view regarding Shakibs use of his bowlers, especially the case in point regarding Razzaq, but this captain is only 22 years old, he will make mistakes unfortunately, he has plenty on his plate.

Credit to Bangladesh for making such a good game out of this, and in fairness it took one of the finest ODI knocks by an Englishman (when I say Englishman, oh you know what I mean!) in recent times to beat them today.

No particular credit is due. This is a team with very good spin bowlers, and a batting order that has improved immeasurably, playing on a dustbowl of a pitch in front of home fans against players who are not especially good at handling spin.

'Making a game of it' was the minimum expectation to be honest.

We've prised defeat from the jaws of victory today with some terrible catching and a poor captaincy decision at the end. I also thought he offered them far too many runs with his field setting in the middle overs.

If we don't at least win the dead rubber it'll be a bit of a kick in the guts.

Yes perhaps my previous post was a little patronising, didn't mean for it to come across like "who'd have thought Bangladesh would give us, England, a competitive match!".

I know England must be seen as quite beatable in parts such as Bangladesh, especially at home. But while Bangladesh have improved without question in ODI's, England too have stepped their game up a notch too. My expectation for this series was for England to win, but to come across the kind of competitiveness we have encountered today.

Yes the Bangladeshi spinners were always going to cause this England side one or two problems on these tracks, but I thought our bowlers would restrict you to lesser totals than the one you managed today, which despite being a competitive total, always felt it was a few runs short.

Too much criticism shouldn't be heaped on Shakib's shoulders, he's a young man doing his best and learning all the time, with a very inexperienced side around him.

I think Bangladesh have a good opportunity to grab a win in the last game, think England may tinker with the side, bringing in the likes of Plunkett, but would still have us down as favourites.

For every out and out result, there will be things the losing side could have done better, but today they were beaten by an outstanding innings. Credit here is due in no small part to Eoin Morgan.

Fair enough mate, I've enjoyed your posts in this thread and the fair hearing you've given Bangladesh.

On a cricketing note, I've just realised that the next game will be played during the day, thereby taking dew out of the equation. With the Chittagong pitch having offered spin in the past, and the Poms likely to tinker with their line-up a bit, I'd say all you betting types would do well to lump some money on Bangladesh for the next one.

I would too, if I had two cents to rub together at the moment. 8-)

Wright is going to be a good player for us in all forms of the game. I'd also back him to be our T20 captain after Colly finished. I think he has the temperament for it.

Luke Wright's useful in these shorter formats tbf. Never gonna score 100s/take 5fers, but does what's asked of him.
*Sighs* He is barely a cricketer for me. Lacks the skills. He bats but isnt a batsman and bowls but isnt a bowler.

I dont mind his selection too much as we are desperate but I dont pretend to think he can ever be anything more than an occassional weapon.

Is Luke Wright the fella that Lancashire fans used to bang on about? Supposedly a gun in T20?

He plays the 'spare' role in ODIs though. The 'floater' in the batting order and the fill-in bowler. He generally does this okay - he doesn't let us down with the ball all that often. He's basically your archetypcal ODI bits and pieces player.

A wonderful innings by Morgan. Played very sensibly and finished the game in style. Feel bad for the Bangladeshi fans though. They deserved to win and would have if at least one decision had not gone against them.

England though must realize that Luke Wright and Bresnan are going to be cannon fodder in the WC if they play.

Get paid on Thursday, so may see what odds are available on the game!!

Why? Both are solid enough one day bowlers. The WC is in South Africa, not India remember.

There are better options though.

Given that the next WC is being held on the subcontinent, I reckon it'll hold a few surprises and hopefully be a very interesting tourney

Agree with all of this other than the fact that he has the potential to be an occassional weapon

Looks incredibly ordinary to me

Saw the first 8 or so overs of our reply in the boozer at lunchtime. Don't want to write the boy off too previously, but I have to say I did call it:

Always looks to get on the front foot, does Kieswetter. Suppose it's because he grew up on the truer tracks in SA and completed his education on the concrete of Taunton. Think he might struggle if the ball darts off the seam.
Don't get many right, so am paying that one.

Still the only test nation never to lose to Bangladesh tho. Go us!
