and Sangakkara averages 66.9 when playing as a pure batsmen excluding BAN and ZIM.
Yeah, the only concern i have about him is his away record, except I think on the flat roads of Pakistan. Not that it is a huge thing, as I said before I prefer players who perform at home more than those who perform away (and not at home) because you play half of your career at home.

So, you prefer players who are half as good as the best?:p

After giving up gloves here are his performances home and away sans BAN and ZIM.

Averages 40+ in every condition which is a no mean feat. He averages 48 in SAF, 97.5 in AUS playing as pure batsman. He has not played as a pure batsman in ENG. The lowest he averages away is 42.8 against WI, playing as a pure batsman, not keeper-batsman

Yeah, not bad numbers by any stretch, still there is scope to improve. But his humungous home record makes up for that.

I don't know what you are coming at. Sanga Averages 69.4 at home, and 64.2 away against test class opposition when playing as a pure batsman.

He has done well in Australia, NZ and Pakistan. But his record in England, Windies, India, South Africa all can be improved. Perhaps the sample sizes are misleading here as the maximum number of tests he has played in any country other than SL is 3 (as pure batsman). So it is too early to arrive at a judgement I concede.

Including Sanga's stats as a pure batsman is misleading since he learned the bulk of his art while keeping and his non-keeping period is his peak. Of course, Migara knows this.

FTR he has not played as a pure batsman in England. Anyway that shows how SL treated in FTR of ICC.

Averages are only misleading to those who use them religiously to do rankings, ignoring all other factors.

Why do you think Pietersen is better than Sangakkara? Pietersen would be classified as good as Jayawardane. (Jayawardane's non SC average is similar to Pietersens SC average, and vice versa).

For me Pietersen is not in the same as Sangakkara. Sanga may be just below Dravid now, but, when he finishes his career I would think he would be the second best test batsman Asia produced if not the best.
I see these SC batsmen as definitely better than sanga as of now:

sachin, dravid, sunny, miandad, inzy .. He could probably surpass miandad and inzy, but not the other 3 IMO

you could make good cases for laxman and sehwag being better than sanga as well

Laxman's value to India as a batsman is far more than you'd guess just by looking at his average. So I guess he has a misleading average.
