But Heath Streak still >>> all other Zimbabwean bowlers combined.
Vermeulen actually got dropped from his domestic team; he's kicking around in the B League. Was playing club cricket in Jo'burg but I think he went back to Zim a couple years ago.
Interesting that Andy's good friend Mark Vermeulen is not part of the aforementioned 30 and hasn't played any domestic cricket for over 3 months.
Streak's now Zimbabwe's bowling coach. But Heath Streak still >>> all other Zimbabwean bowlers combined.
Streak? Almost certainly. He'd be the best bat in the country no?
Any idea why Ervine was not selected? Not sure how this will affect his county status if he does make a return. Two newcomers for Zim in their 15. Ex-Hampshire all-rounder, Greg Lamb and ex-footballer and younger brother of Hamilton, Shingirai Masakadza. No word if Blignaut and Sean Ervine were selected though both will be featuring in Zim’s 20/20 tournament which starts tomorrow and will be televised across Africa on SuperSport and in India.
Ervine hasn't made himself available for national selection as it'd make him an overseas players for the purposes of county cricket. Even if he wanted to play, I think he's still technically bound by his Hampshire contract.Any idea why Ervine was not selected? Nice to see Greg Lamb included, never quite made it for Hampshire (especially when we stupidly made him our main spinner before Tahir came along) but hope he goes well.
Four specialist spinners and no Rainsford. Better hope the pitches turn.Squad to West Indies, according to dawn.com....
Squad: Prosper Utseya (c), Brendan Taylor, Tatenda Taibu, Hamilton Masakadza (v/c), Ray Price, Graeme Cremer, Charles Coventry, Vusi Sibanda, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Greg Lamb, Elton Chigumbura, Shingirai Masakadza, Timycen Maruma, Chris Mpofu, Kyle Jarvis.
So no Blignaut or Mariller.
I thought that would have been the case but just seemed strange that he was in the provisional squad, I had certainly heard nothing to suggest that he would not be playing for Hampshire next season.Ervine hasn't made himself available for national selection as it'd make him an overseas players for the purposes of county cricket. And yeah, Lamb's proven just how dire his selection as a frontline spinner in England was by taking just nine wickets in eleven Logan Cup games at an average of almost 60 this season. He's averaging 56 with the bat though, as you'd expect him to I suppose.
Zimbabwean provisional squads have always been very much wishful thinking. Players often decline the offer to play after being selected in them.I thought that would have been the case but just seemed strange that he was in the provisional squad, I had certainly heard nothing to suggest that he would not be playing for Hampshire next season.
tbf Ervine is only in his mid-20s isn't he???A few good blasts from the past there. Sean Ervine!
When's Henry Olonga declaring himself available? John Traicos maybe?
With the elder Bravo and Sarwan still injured this would be my team....IMHO, Runako Morton, Travis Dowlin, Lendl Simmons and Wavell Hinds are out, and we will - hopefully - welcome back from injury the likes of Chanderpaul, Sarwan, the Bravos and Barath....
1) Chris Gayle
2) Adrian Barath
3) Darren Bravo
4) Shiv Chanderpaul
5) Darren Sammy
6) Kieron Pollard
7) Dwayne Bravo
8) Dwayne Smith
9) Denesh Ramdin
10) Suleimann Benn
11) Kemar Roach
