****ing harsh to give Paine two matches opening the batting while Haddin is out.

Christian must surely be close to replacing James Hopes.

Gayle said WI would win 4-1 but we know thats not true. Just cos Gayle says so does not mean it is so.
Well if it is a load of BS, which it is obviously, what was Gayle meant to say? 'I hope we win a game'? Otherwise they may as well get on the plane and go home.

I used that to point out it is not a good idea to use Gayle's quotes in the media as a means of telling someone to eat humble pie.

I have no objection to anything Gayle says, its up to him to back it up.

Gayle was obviously just being Gayle. I imagine it was just a tongue in cheek reference to McGrath or something like that.

Probably taking the resting a bit too far, in the old days the guys just used to play every single game whilst nowdays.... Guys like Ryan Harris don't even play all forms of the game, why oh why. Most players need sustained periods of play where they can establish themselves and get into rhythm.

You're merely speculating Mike, Gayle said with his own words when he made the toss in the 2nd ODI that "we want to give the players a chance", now he's saying "i don't have to inform the selectors, i'm gonna make changes", which suggests his say counts, so yes Mike, humble pie indeed  .
This is the crucial quote....

"Although not a member of the panel and not actively involved in choosing the touring squad, Gayle was ’consulted’, Butts explained yesterday."

I'm sure you've been following the dispute between the players and the WICB, and would read that this is a setup that limits Gayle's influence....

Gayle's statement is one of frustration at not getting the team he wants. That basically is what the Trinidad Express article is saying. Isn't that how you see it?

So his influence is "limited" and yet he's saying in public that "he doesn't care what the selectors think and there will be changes"? it doesn't make sense Mike.

It does make sense if you see it for what it is - an expression of frustration. Don't you think it's absolutely ridiculous that the captain is not a selector on tour? I think it's a sign of total disrespect....

if selectors like Williams, Springer and Butts were making sensible decisions, it wouldn't be so bad. But they're the ones who sent out an unchanged XI for the second ODI.

This is the quote that seals it for me Mike

None of the present panel of Clyde Butts, Robert Haynes and Raphick Jumadeen is in Australia where Gayle, Coach David Williams and assistant coach Henderson Springer decide on the team from match to match
So the people "in the know" suggest that Gayle has had an influence on picking the side, and it's no surprise if the damn selectors couldn't even be bothered to make the trip to Australia.

West Indies killing themselves with the bloody wides, it's a joke really, we had them in a little trouble when we got the two quick wickets but we've allowed them to get settled now, i think it's time to get Pollard and Rampaul bowling as a pair now, if we get one of these out soon the it could get interesting, we must keep them below 220 at least.

Don't you mean wides? And Australia will surely make 250+, the sun is out and the deck looks good. Until tonight of course, when the humidity sets in. (Y)

Here goes old Tony with his little advertisement for Cricket Australia tourism, about the 678432 time I have heard him do it in the last few months. Why is it always him that does the adverts? Must say I enjoy him describing whatever film 9 has later that day.
