26 overs 2-53 is going missing? It's like comparing little more consistent Sehwag and A Cook..
Steyn is simply better. I'd pick him everytime over Asif against any team anywhere. Steyn's got more tools than Asif.
I can't recall many Asif's special like I can recall Steyn's special.. There was once against India and recently in Australia in a favourable condition.. He went missing in the second innings.. Steyn's simply awesome.
Asaif has been lucy that he has not played on many sub cont roads and when he has played he has been steady rater then threatening. If you take in to account the fielding and catching (and maybe the pitches) that these two have to contend with, I think you could make an argument that Asif's average (obviously he doesn't have the number of wickets under his belt yet) might well be substantially better than Steyn's, all things being equal.
Personally I reckon Asif is a bit more "special" than Steyn. Of course, most people equate "special" or "x-factor" with extra pace.
Must be the number of wickets taken so far, because all other things being equal, Asif blows Steyn away with that stat. Theres a Wasim vs McGrath thread somewhere that was all about that stat.]

The most interesting stat I find.
Averages Overall #1-#6 #7-#11
Steyn 23.05 29.36 14.70
Asif 23.20 24.27 20.25
Does he though? I bet Steyn's strike rate is still probably better than Asif in knocking over #1-6 he'll just go for more runs like most genuinely fast men.Must be the number of wickets taken so far, because all other things being equal, Asif blows Steyn away with that stat. Well, 80% of Asif's wickets are #1-7, and 64% of Steyn's wickets are #1-7. I don't know how the average breakup has been derived there, but I'd say the difference in strike rate becomes insignificant if 80% of Asif's victims are top order wickets at 24, compared to Steyn's 64% at 29. Its not like Asif's strike rate is too far off Steyn's too. Wild guess - I'd say cheap and quick lower order wickets might be the reason for the difference in strike rates.Does he though? Big fan of both these guys, and choosing who is better is really hard for me to do. Really depends on the conditions, Asif on a seamer would be immense.
Would say Asif's technique isn't as suited to skittling out tailenders.Well, 80% of Asif's wickets are #1-7, and 64% of Steyn's wickets are #1-7. I'd still rate Steyn ahead of Asif at this point, but it'd be purely on the basis of more wickets taken.
It doesn't need to be unsuitable. Perhaps his technique is just more suited to skittling out top order batsmen, the sort who are actually troubled the the corridor of uncertainty and subtle line changes etcWould say Asif's technique isn't as suited to skittling out tailenders.
Suggests that Steyn is more dangerous earlier in the batsmen's innings and less capable than Asif in prying out batsmen once they're set.Steyn has dismissed batsmen for a duck 43 times and Asif has on 6 occasions.
Steyn has dismissed batsmen bowled or a duck 14 times and Asif is yet to do it.
These stats prove nothing and are for interest only.
Wow that is interesting! As GIJoe said it is now only that Steyn has taken more wickets that he is slightly ahead.]
