Went to watch the Wellington v CD match last night - first live game I've seen in NZ in ages.
Weather was fairly attrocious though at least it didn't rain enough to stop play. The end of the match was farcical - I had no idea what was going on seeing as usually bad light is at the batsmen's discretion. Only later read that the umpires decided to bring the players off 'for safety'. Stupid - it didn't seem much darker than it had all day.
Was amusing seeing domestic stalwarts Parlane and Ingram smashing the ball everywhere. Can't say any of the CD bowlers looked particularly impressive, though from where I was sitting it was hard to tell how good a line each bowler was bowling. Was surprised Noema-Barnett only bowled two overs seeing as he had the best figures and seemed to be varying his bowling quite a bit. Even though Merchant scored quite a few I didn't think he looked that great (was first time I'd seen him) - foot movement a bit slow and it seemed like a srcappy innings. Was once again reminded how much I like Jimmy F's batting though.
Wellington seemed about 10 times more alert in the field than CD and that Merchant catch to get rid of Jamie How was incredible. Franklin bowled two excellent overs before Ingram had his eye in - I was really happy to see him bowling well again. Then his third over was a bunch of half volleys and a full toss that Ingram took for 23! Garbage! McKay bowled decently and seemed to have knack for getting the ball to skid through even though he's quite tall.
All in all was good to see the match, just disappointing it finished in the way it did.
