Haha, so both of the sides opening bowlers are from CD? Oh the irony.

I'm a fan of both Small and Wheeler ftr. Wheeler aint quick but I love his action and the movement he can generate. He's going to struggle to get a FC game ahead of Thompson though, who is basically the same bowler but can bat and leads the attack.

Small being 17 will have alot to do with why this is the first time we've seen him. Reeve likes youth but with the amount of raw bowlers already lined up for CD I don't think he'll want to throw in a 17 year old.

Nah, cricinfo actually have him down as Right-arm medium, the same pace status Nathan Astle, Grant Elliott and Jesse Ryder have.
They've got Elliott down as fast-medium, doubt they put any effort into accurate labeling since there's a number of internationals with an incorrect status

Best to just go off what you see live

Merchant's catch of How was a proper stunner though. Shah really is a poor fielder that lucked out with that.
Merchants catch was awesome.

You know people, talk about Pingas feet all you like, but he moves them better than Sinclair and Fulton, and he hits gaps and has a great eye.

That has to be the biggest load of sh!t i have ever read on this forum. Peter Igram moves his feet more than Sinclair and Fulton??? Are you smoking something you shouldnt?

The ONLY person in world cricket who moves his feet less is probably and only maybe a probably is Viru Sehwag.

His eye thats a different story...its obviously very good but he will never play for NZ because his feet are stuck in glue.period

Because Sehwag's proved to be so poor because of lack of footwork?

Which is, of course, beside the point. Personally, I'd prefer Ingram to McIntosh. But really, the opening spot battle is as 'meh' as ever.

Sehwag such a horrid example for saying its a negative :p

go read one of the sehwag threads btw, he does actualy move his feet.

No Ingram does move his feet more than this version of Fulton. I know its like comparing a couple of trees but he does. He also has very, very good balance so he gets himself in good positions to play the desired shot.

Im not saying he's a world beater but I dont think he'd be a deadset failure at test level either.

Can't believe it.

Me and a group of mates (all old mates of Ronnie) planned since Monday to go to the Auckland v ND game. Cancelled at 4pm due to the weather.

Hira 4 overs, 4/13.

fmd

Hira for the Black Caps though. And we had a good time getting smashed and watching Aus v Pakistan.

Ingram would be lucky to average more then 20 in test cricket, he's Peter Fulton except not as naturally talented IMO. Could you honestly say you'd see him being successful against international quicks, whenever I've seen him up against good domestic bowlers he's never impressed me.

That said I'd much rather have him in the team over McIntosh, because at least Ingram would put away bad balls, something that McIntosh really has trouble doing.

Why is Sehwag such a terrible example?

We werent talking about their ability?

We were simply talking about their footwork. Ingram was embarrassingly shocking (footwork) on that TV game vs Auckland in Nelson the other day. People got a good indication why the selectors wont pick him. It was baseball pure and simple. Having been in London for a while i hadnt seen him play but i think my jaw was on the ground when i saw him just stand there and swing.

I'll say it again though he obviously has a tremendous eye and thats what enables him to succeed at the domestic level but that will not be enough against the big boys

going back to the new zealand pace stocks hamish bennett has played once all season and mclennagan not at all, neil wagner also looks to be having a ordinary season. brent arnell surely must get a chance at test level soon. graeme aldridge ewen thompson are having fine seasons. is bevan small going to be the next shane bond a few years down the line.

In my magazine previewing the nz season - it said that hamish bennett was suppossed to be a key member of the attack this year.

Pace bowler Hamish Bennett has been dropped after getting pasted around QEII's Village Green, with Carl Frauenstein likely to come into the playing lineup, while Brandon Hiini has been added to the XI.
On another note although ND are my team. I wouldn't mind if CD get up and win it all (the 20/20) ahead of Otago. Otago had their chance at the champions league last year and didn't look the part. Time to give someone else a go.

I reckon he could average around the same as McIntosh at least. Footwork just as minimal but if he lasts as long as McIntosh can he'll score alot more runs.

Ingram has scored runs against good attacks, you dont average as high as he has over the course of a few years by being an Ian Bell. Despite his shortcomings, he scores runs.

Players with tremendous eyes only have succeeded in test cricket before. Theyre less likely to do so but they can and have. As long as he's in balance like a Gayle or Ryder he can play fine. When he loses confidence and form he's completely dire, but when he's on song he renders footwork irrelevant on any domestic pitch against any domestic attack.

I think his footwork off the front foot is decent, minimal but precise and balanced, the backfoot shots are where he's more likely to be caught out.

On yesterdays game, I was impressed with Andy Mckay, he was bowling really well yesterday and I hope he keeps it up. Also not playing Ewen Thompson was ********. I know Rance has been bowling well but you shouldnt leave out one of your best for him, drop someone else.

Yo can we send a composite team of CD's batting and ND's bowling
That would be soooooooooooooooooooo decent

Bennett should focus on his First Class game cause we don't need express bowlers for limited overs. As long as Canterbury don't drop him from FC based on OD form, he'll be right.

On yesterdays game, I was impressed with Andy Mckay.
He's not bowling as well as he was a couple of years back. He got a couple of wickets with poor deliveries and his incarnation for Wellington seems very adept at bowling a '4 ball' every over. Needs to work on his consistancy a bit more.
