Seriously no pace in this South African attack. First change quicker Smith can't get above 75mph.

Smith is awful. Richards needs to stand up as the Sri Lankan batsman are treating him with utter contempt.

Wernars isn't much to write home about as well. Quickest thing in the side (80mph) but he is all of 5'10.

Sri Lanka will be delighted with the start given the overcast conditions and the amount of swing Hume got.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa looks a serious talent. Shades of Jayasuriya and he can bowl as South Africa will testify.

TT Boy, where are you watching the game? Sky TV in NZ advertised coverage of the game yesterday but it's not on here...

Really terrible bowling. Be amazed if any of these South African quicks go pro. Most pedestrian attack I've seen so far in the competition.

Harry Boam with another run-out, Australia 166-5 with 14 overs left. They'll do well to make 250 IMO from here.

Interesting they brought Small on to bowl.

Johnston and Boam did well to peg the run rate back there. They didn't begin too flash.

SA players are pretty stockey lads aren't they.

Short, stocky, medium pace and somewhat falling apart.

Their useless but I've heard good reports about the batsman, so hopefully they can chase this down. Going to be really tough though.

Fielding also has been awful. Think that drop by Ackerman was the 5th of the innings.

Australia scored 84 runs of the last 20 overs, after getting of to a pretty good start I was expecting something around 275. New Zealand should chase this down, afterall the batting is suppose to be this teams biggest strength.

Yeah but Australia's biggest strength is the bowling.

Very disappointed that Mitch Marsh got run out, he was the big wicket for sure. If Australia get a few early wickets the NZ middle order will be under pressure, seeing as though they've not batted this series.

Good to see him scoring runs at least.

The men who have shone and have the big reputations in SA are

  • Josh Richards Probably best gloveman there and skipper
  • Kirk Wernars Big burly all-rounder who is quite quick
  • Dale Deeb Spinning all-rounder dubbed as the future SA spinner
Going by what I saw today...

Richards isn't a particular good keeper, dropped catch and kept poorly standing up to the medium pacers and spinners.

Kirk Wernars isn't big, burly or quick. Comes onto the bat nicely, goes to the boundary even quicker.

As for Deeb, the future is bleak.
