So it is okay for the players to sign the contract (as they did in IPL2) and then refuse to participate in the tournament and basically leave the teams that counted on you in lurch.
But it is not okay for those IPL teams to learn from their mistakes and look for players who were more likely to honor their contract.
Mate, what has happened, when something other than logic takes precedence over a person's mind, he/she tends to not listen/read properly. If you read my post, you will understand how the whole eye for and eye making the whole world blind thing works. India did not honour an obligation to tour Pakistan in 2008. That was the first shot. Pakistan responded by not allowing the players to play in IPL 2. That was the second shot. From my perspective, since I am not blinded by jingoism, both were equally stupid acts..and one should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity and also the fact that stupidity begets stupidity.
So when there were the smallest of signs of problems with Pakistani players - the question they asked themselves was probably not "Why should or shouldn't we pick a particular Pakistani player?" but more "Why should we bother?". It's going to be a good show (and show is what it is, this isn't the Olympics) even if five or six more star players dropped out. (This "Why should we bother?" applies in particular to Shahid Afridi, btw, on top of his nationality.)
I accept your response mate only that there is a small problem with that. Dont you think, (and I would hope that you would be honest here) that maybe the authorities could have asked this whole "Why Should we bother" a bit earlier, and then assessed the pros and cons and decided NOT to pick any Pakistani players at all a bit earlier..so that this farce could have been avoided?
The other thing Pakistan supporters could do is duct tape the fingers and mouth of "Faisal85" - this careless usage of terms like 'racist', and references to "cow urine" and bandying of half-assed conspiracy theories isn't winning any friends nor influencing any people
Every man speaks for himself my friend. Faisal85 is no representation of "Pakistani voice" nor me, nor you of "Indian voice" nor anyone else. Pakistani supporters cannot be held responsible for Faisal85's foul language just like individual Indians cannot be held responsible for Shiv Shena's hateful messages.
Anyway, this is what the TOI has to say. Apparently the BCCI wanted the Pakistani players on board, and so did some of the franchises. So the BCCI pulled strings and did everything it could regarding visas and government permissions. That is how the auction list was drawn, Then, before the auction, the franchises wanted the government to guarantee that there would be no protests against the Pakistani players. Obviously the government couldn't guarantee that given the unreliability of Pakistan. So the franchises decided to play it safe and not bid on the Pakistani players. Obviously not talking about all of the franchises, since some of them were pretty clear on not bidding on them for other reasons (team composition, merchandising issues etc).
The IPL authorities, franchises, BCCI, Lalit Modi and every Tom, Dick and Ramesh involved with this should have asked for the Indian government's guarantee much before they started all this talk of transfer and all. You dont invite guests to your house and then when they are at your door, refuse to open the door because "sorry mate, my dad refused to give me permission to open the door"
So, any logical person, not blinded by jingoism or any other 'ism" should be able to acknowledge that the BCCI, Lalit Modi, franchises and anyone else involved with organising the IPL were simply reckless and irresponsible.
It's probably been asked already but I'm not trawling through this stuff...
How do the statements "Pakistan players ignored by IPL" and "this is how democracy works" have any connection? In other words, what does the IPL have anything to do with democracy.
At its most basic level, the franchises' decision not to sign any Pakistani players actually seems fairly democratic, with the whole liberal connotations of 'democracy' and the franchises' freedom to act as they wish.
I am an optimistic person, and I would like to think that the majority of Indian people are capable of appreciating good cricket above anything else just like they are capable of appreciating good music over anything and have welcomed Pakistani musicians with open arms. Hence I do not believe that this is a democratic decision..instead its a cheap political act on the part of BCCI and Lalit Modi, and if some Indian members who claim its because the government did not provide guarantee are to be believed, then the government too.
i think pakistan should start a PPL and generate its own money. with so much suppressed anger towards each other, indians and pakistanis are not ready to play cricket together. i know it hurts pakistanis badly when india showed they dont need pakistanis as part of their show but at least india have remained true to their feelings. at the same time, it is utterly dishonest of pakistan to expect to make money from an indian tournament when there is no mutual love or respect. the best response pakistan can do is to float its own premier league if money is what they are after. they should stop clamouring after indian money and generate their own.
I agree that it is dishonest to expect Indian money but dont you think it is equally dishonest to ask Pakistani players to participate in the auction in the first place because as you said,. there is no
mutual love or respect.
it is more important for them to get the national team sorted though. they should be more worried about india being no.1 in tests rather than indian cricketers' bank balance. afterall indians make more money than pakistani counterparts in all walks if life. why should it be different in cricket? afridi & cos families wont starve because of this snub. they should stop bothering and just move on. but knowing how big a part greed plays in whatever we do, i expect these guys to shamelessly offer them for next year's auction as well. just start PPL and move on, guys!
While you are right that Pakistan have plenty of problems in their cricket to look into, it is totally a different matter in this topic. I dont think they should be worried about India being number 1...what they should be worried about is them being ranked 7 or 8. You cant improve your cricket if you think about what someone else is doing.
Secondly, yes Afridi and company wont starve..and that was the cause of my initial ire but unfortunately, Afridi and co like most human beings have this bug called greed and it is never satisfied. So they want more and more money, and compromise their self respect in the process, and then get a slap on the face and disrespected because they didn't respect and honour themselves in the first place.
I cant see Cairns going but if they were smart they could really piss the BCCI off by recognizing the ICL as an official PCB tournament. I know it would take some work to re-start but it is a ready made event with lots of people with knowledge of an event like this and lots of people on all sides that do not like the BCCI
ICL is over anyway but yes I agree, they should have done that in the first place..but guess what..just like the Pakistani players, the PCB has no self respect, actually its worse..so all it does is act as BCCI's puddle, not dare to enrage their master, lest they refuse to tour Pakistan sometime in 3-4 years. PCB is not aware of the concept of self determination, and will continue to lick BCCI's feet, and get slapped and kicked from time to time and will not be able to do anything about it.
