Missed the first 10 or 15 overs, but didn't see any left armers. The spinners didn't amaze me tbh. The leg spinner needs to lower his arm and explode more at the crease, he kinda just ambled through. Braithewaite easily and I could see Griffiths playing in ODI's in a couple of years, he was very good on the pull and straight over the top, the sound off the bat was beuuuutiful, didnt get to see much of the other batsman. BTW Holder is HUGE and had decent pace on him, but I think Butt from Pakistan was a little quicker.
Thanks man. Holder is a medium/fast all rounder so I'm not surprised the Pakistani seamer was quicker than him. We only have one genuine fast bowler in the squad in Keon Joseph and he hasn't played yet as he is quite expensive with the new ball.

Beamer have you seen Jermaine Blackwood play? do you know if he's a lefty or not? THIS ARTICLE suggests that he is so that's why i'm confused right now, i hope he is to be honest because it seems like there's not a single left arm pacer in sight for the windies to look at, Delorn Johnson was said to be a very good left arm all rounder but he seems to have vanished into thin air lately.

p.s. Thanks for the info Nz Guy

17 year old Bevan Small looks a very good prospect for New Zealand, he's already got up to 141K in his first over.

Doug Bracewell picks up a wicket in his first over. He looks to be a strong shoulder bowler, he's getting some away swing and he's up around 135-138K.

Blackwood is a right arm off spinner and I don't think we have any left arm pacers in this squad. That article is wrong unfortunately.

Btw as predicted, the pace of Keon Joseph is proving expensive, even against PNG. Clearly pace isn't everything.

Dude that's quick for a young lad. Short or tall? Into the pitch or skids on? Left, righty or both?

Wonder where this kid was when they had the last young fastest bowler comp.

He's six foot maybe, he doesn't look that tall but I'm not sure. He's bowling into the pitch and getting some pretty good bounce, the commentators are going gaga over him because he's moving it both ways.

Akram loving this bowling from left armer Ben Wheeler, he's swinging it both ways and the batsmen don't really seem to have a clue. Not the fastest of bowlers though, only 125-130K.

Hmm WI should have batted first against PNG to boost their NRR more.
Would the easiest way to boost a NRR against a weaker team not be to bowl first, knock them over cheaply and then knock the runs off in quick time? I realise they aren't doing this, but it's how teams have gone about it in the past.

Yeah, agreed. If you can bowl a substandard team out for (say) less than 100, you could easily bat for that long at 7-8 an over, but it's a lot harder to sustain that kind of run rate over the whole innings.

Precisely. Assuming the pitch is not a road that is

It kinda depends, the fact WI have a pretty high 'for' run-rate makes the batting second a little bit more viable.

It is much harder to get a big net gain by batting second because the few overs you bat have a smaller impact when they're averaged out against the 100 overs they'd effectively batted in their other two games.

Looking at the table I think they really needed a big bat first total to swing the NRR in their favour, or a really tiny PNG total bowling first.

Kraigg Braithwaite versus the World.

I fear this might become a common theme during his inevitable international career.

Jimmy Neesham has just come to the crease.

Edit: And hit's a cover drive for four third ball.

Barath will be around for a while, I expect. And guys like Deonarine and Darren Bravo are good bets too. Braithwaite will have some company. Looking at the bowlers more tbh.

And you getting live coverage of this game?

Someone is, somewhere, because bet365 are holding live betting on it. Foxtel aren't showing it though.

Yea Sky's showing it over here. Me posting the speeds of the bowlers is a pretty good give away that I'm watching it live haha :p

I see plenty of talented spin bowlers at all levels in West Indies cricket, most of them leggies which can only be good. The pace bowling future looks bleak though. Jason Holder is the only one to have impressed in this tournament so far, Joseph and Gordon have been awful.
