The Wheel is Forever
If India win the series against Australia, they will leapfrog England, and depending on the margin of victory, SA as well.
If India beat England then the gap between india and South Africa will increase as will the gap between South Africa and England.India leapfrog the other nation to be #2:
- Australia (1518)
- India (1016)
- RSA (999)
- England (985)
- Pakistan (868)
- Sri Lanka (814)
- New Zealand (794)
- West Indies (482)
- Bangladesh (105)
Numbers 2-4 are so close that every series will change the order.
If India win 2-0, England will drop down to 900, SA will stay around 1000 and India will be up to 1061. If India win 1-0, the same thing will happen, but to a smaller degree. In case of 0-0 or 1-1, nothing will change as it will not have improved the status quo (England went 1-1 last time they toured India). If India beat England then the gap between india and South Africa will increase as will the gap between South Africa and England.
Meanwhile, England have decided that South Africa is no longer worthy of its own country and hence take their place in the world rankings in addition to their own.
- Australia 1513
- India 1041
- England 1000
- England 946
- Pakistan 866
- Sri Lanka 812
- New Zealand 795
- West Indies 483
- Bangladesh 106
India stay ahead and widen the lead after beating England. However, if RSA beat Australia in Australia, they will move to #2 in the rankings. Australia still dominant in rankings, but they have started a minor decline and they'll fall further after the conclusion of this current series even if they win the next two Tests (since SA have already bettered their previous record in Australia). However, for the first time in recent memory, Australia's #1 ranking is actually at stake. If SA do manage to annihilate both Australia home and away (e.g, 5-1 or better), they can actually overtake Australia.
This is obviously unlikely, but it is significant in that it is the first time in many years that another team even has the potential to dislodge Australia after playing them home and way. Before, Australia's rating was so far above the pack that even a whitewash home and away by any one team would not have displaced them from the #1 spot.

I think you should give it a shot with an updated version as a new thread. I am sure there will be reactions Ppl perhaps look at the thread start date and think it is an old one or something.. Or by reading the first post...I stopped doing it as no one seemed to care all that much. I'd be fine with restarting if there is a renewed interest in it.
