I blame Hansie Cronje for the fact that I can't take it at face value when something like this happens. It sucks.

It’s a day later and this hurts more each passing minute. I’m incredibly depressed. I don’t think I’ll be watching the rest of the series much. Osman Samiuddin’s article on cricinfo is dead on.

Despite his most recent innings, I think "steel" is a bit generous given his general form.
Well i'm basing it from this innings TBF. As Ikki said AUS need his maturity right now, too many cats be getting starts & not carrying on for a good 2 years now..

Nah hs "steel" is still needed in a middle-order that has been collapsing way too often since 07/08, especially with Ponting not at his best. Mr.Cricket ATM still is safe until the Ashes later this year..
What does this have to do with my post?

Hussey's been one of them pretty often though. Yes, this was a fantastic innings, but I'm not convinced he should be treated too differently to other inconsistent strugglers in the lineup. Certainly shouldn't be undroppable purely because of one innings.

Everything. I would hope the idea of Hussey thinking now is good time to go out & high doesn't cross his mind, since AUS need him in the middle-order for obvious reasons aformentioned.

Hussey hasn't really been in the group of "getting starts & getting out" though, he has was in a real trot between SA 08/09 up until his Oval hundred. This innings although dropped 3 times is the best he has played this summer & it does seem like he finding something close to peak form again. You can always tell when he hitting that extra cover drive to perfection

Well in a third of his last 32 innings (from the NZ '08 series) he's been out between 15 and 49. He's also failed to reach as high 15 in over a third of those innings. But whatever. He's been the steel when others have been fickle.

Oh jeez now you have me thinking. It would explain the moronic field placements in the first session...

I'm sure a bunch of people made a lot of dosh backing the Australians last night.

Just watching a replay of the last days play (starts at 2 am here so didnt see it) and it really is akin to a Greek tragedy

Only funny thing is that even the Channel 9 commentators were willing the Pakis to change their field from ball 1 - even those biased guys wanted them to put their best foot forward

Yousuf really did have a shocker as captain

Yeah. The same thought crossed my mind yesterday. I dont believe it - but it did occur to me. Even so, didnt want to voice it because it seemed churlish. Kudos to Australia after all.

Pakistan: simply not upto it. What a choke in two sessions. Un - ****ing - believable. Dont think I will be watching the next test. I cant be arsed watching this team - much as I like watching Asif, Aamir, and Akmal (the classy one that is).

Wow, bit late, but shocking result here. The bouncebackability of the dominant Aussie sides over the years has been a characteristic of the lower order and tailenders. This mentality that they are the best in the world and so are in almost any game, regardless of the situation can really power the best of players and this alone can really fuel a belief that cricket is not played on paper, it is played in the head. Peter Siddle's knock today, as well as Hussey's, and the subsequent bowling performance really outlined the never give up mentality that is often disregarded for the dominant Aussie team.

Bravo!

I know Yousuf can't (and shouldn't) throw his teammate under the bus publicly but he better have been on the phone right after the post match conference telling the selectors to send over another keeper ASAP.

That was horrendous keeping, no way a professional cricketer at any level could get away with keeping like that. If you're a subcontinental keeper, and you can't keep to the spinners, I don't even know how you get anywhere near the Test side. That's the biggest mystery for me.

Parthiv Patel skipped FC, apparently, in the wise eyes of the Indian selection, you don't actually need to play professional cricket before playing Tests.

Yousuf should probably be telling them to send over another captain ASAP too.

The thing is, the drops weren't exactly difficult deliveries to keep to, spinner or not. Just straightforward in and out. It's not even about basic wicketkeeping errors, it's just basic catching errors.
