I must admit I thought the dec a good idea, it has put the Pakistan team on the back foot, not sure whether to play for a draw or to aim for a lead, and as such seem to be just existing

Eh, looks like the declaration didn't come prematurely after all.

Looks like I underestimated Ricky a touch, although I hope to god that Pakistan doesn't pull off a SA-type 'miracle'.

Our attack looks significantly better this time around, though. There's no semi-fit Lee to be carried, Hauritz is a better bowler, whilst Bollinger and Siddle actually look fit and have less of a workload.

Watson's average with the bat now 2 runs higher than his average with the ball. :happy:

moreover, in the 7 tests since his recall he's averaging 24 more with the bat than ball (54 vs 30) :notworthy

I think he deserves to come into the attack earlier tbh, but maybe it is his constant habit of breaking down that tempers Mr Ponting:unsure:

ATWA; the declaration was effective assertive captaincy by Ponting. Pakistan seemed surprised and consequently were uncertain in their approach of the target.

The Australians are now firmly placed and have the upper hand after an inspired performance by the bowlers. Just hope that the batsmen don't collapse in the second dig. I'd also love to see a century by someone, but that appears a distant possibility atm.

Also in sanguine anticipation of Umar Akmal batting tomorrow; he seems a fine young prospect.

In other news, I think we can declare Hussey's form slump, if not over, is definitely receding. If Hilditch remains as fixed on getting Hughes into the team, North needs to look to his life. It would require something extraordinary from here for him to have much of an opportunity in this match, but he'd be hoping he gets a chance to bat and look in good nick in the second dig, and ruing the fact that Hauritz got to bat this morning instead of him...

It is getting really, really tricky to find reasons to hate him these days. Cricket wise.

Meh, with our injury list it'll happen naturally. I really hope they don't tamper with the batting lineup though. Stability ftw.

Didn't get the game started I believe. The result is under investigation as no-one bothered putting pads on indicating the game was never going to start.
