Aussies have copped it easy for a very long time now.. Dunno y some of them get so defensive over a pretty obvious fact...
Australian players are not guilty any more than other players but the incompetence of match referees must be taken seriously. It is atrocious that Shane Watson's dismal disciplinary record was given scant regard by Chris Broad in this case. I remember ICC being pilloried for not providing Harbhajan's past antics during the Justice Hansen hearing, but in this case the oversight was equally as bad.

Actually not sure what you're talking about here. I don't think anyone's being defensive here in terms of trying to justify Watson's actions or even disagreeing that Watson was extremely fortunate to cop such a mild punishment. People are taking issue with some of Garner's comments on those issues and some of the generalisations that have been made in this thread.

Those saying if Ponting said what Gayle said, he would have copped a lot of criticism, are 100% correct. Same if it was Graeme Smith or Harbhajan or Sree.

Gayle can get away with almost anything to be honest. So long as he doesn't bag test cricket (whether joking or not).

I appreciated his honesty. The pro-test snobbery is a joke. If you're a cricketer and don't really like playing tests you should be allowed to say so. And Gayle didn't even go as far as that.

''When they sledge and if you give it back to them, they whinge a lot,'' Gayle said in Perth yesterday. ''They can't handle it.''
Given the amount of bile poured out by sections of the Aussie media and some former Aussie players against Gayle before, during and after the Brisbane Test, I don't see anything wrong with Gayle speaking his mind now....

He's earned it!

Whatever it takes!!!

“Honestly sir, I only called the opposition captain a **** and asked the umpire if he needed a f-ing guide dog because I was so proud to represent this great school and my fierce competitive spirit refused to allow me to sacrifice my honour by accepting defeat gracefully. Surely I’m a candidate for the captaincy next year sir. Or at least give me just 15% of the caning I deserve. And what’s more sir, he baited me!”

Spot On!!!

Childish school kid stuff really, The madia gave Gayle a hard time and upset him, so he can act like a spoilt little kid and abuse the Australian team. Dont you think it would be more appropiate to give it back to the media. At least Ponting has a bit more class than Gayle and will just file it under revenge and the day will come.

Top stuff tonight Streetwise, Ricky Ponting and class only go together to describe his batting, never for anything else.

Not really mate, Ponting was quick to point out England beat us fair and square, he never hides behind snide little comments about the umpires or makes excuses for poor play. He is straight down the line and has never indulged in gutter remarks like Gayle. Ponting has taken more crap from the media than Gayle ever will and always takes it on the chin and comes back stronger. Credit where credit is due and Ponting is all class when it comes to handling the press and taking his pills.

Not sure he did earlier but certainly takes it all in his stride these days:)

Good to see that West Indies put up such a good fight with such a severely weakened side. Not sure if it was them making a comeback or just the fact that Australia have dropped off badly in the last year.Anyway it will be interesting to see how Barath and Roach progress over the next year or so.
