I have a pretty decent record of spotting talented cricketers and earmarking them for future success. My main failure would be Will Jefferson in recent times. Some guys you can tell will make it from the first time you see them play (Taylor & Ryder being two).
So...

Care to make any predictions? :p

I make it perfectly clear who I rate out there, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll get the opportunity to play for the Black Caps. I haven't seen any domestic so far this year, but I will let you know if I spot anyone that gets the Heef seal of approval.

I watched Hiini bowl today, I didn't really see anything great about him tbh but he wasn't bad. What HDS said about him seemed pretty right today.

The players that have impressed me this year so far would be

Corey Anderson
Ili Tugaga
Cameron Merchant
Josh Brodie

We'll have to see who performs. This is a crucial little period for anyone wanting to earn themselves a test cap.

Arnel, Southee, Tuffey, Vettori are the frontrunners. Trent Boult has been very effective when he's played and Hamish Bennett had a good season last year and has started well this year. Lance Shaw has been consistently top drawer whilst bowling a lot of overs at Eden Park Outer Oval as well, so while he's medium fast he's found ways to get wickets. Kyle Mills on return from injury is another to keep an eye on. There will be others as well but I can't be arsed going in depth.

So assuming we keep Vettori, Tuffey and Southee in the side as part of a five man attack the favourites at this stage would be Arnel and Boult, and I have no issue with either, especially Arnel who has been superb for a while now.
Being doing abit of searching tonight on why Shaw hasn't been playing for Auckland over the last few weeks, I can't find anything about him being injured at the moment so by the looks of things he's been dropped.

He was in the 12 against ND but he didn't make the final XI and looking at the bowling line-up for this weeks game you'd have to wonder why he isn't playing if Ravi Bopara is opening the bowling.

Shaw has been playing this summer I believe, I recall his name being on scorecards. Not that it really matters as I can't see the NZ selectors picking him and I wouldn't be disapoointed if they didn't (we have many bowlers like him), I just like him for picking up wickets on that flat track up there (though they've moved this year) and I think he's a good bowler. I just mention him constantly to wind you up.

Ravi Bopara opening the bowling is the biggest facepalm ever. Even Auckland haters (like me :p) know they have better bowlers than a part timer like him.

Andy McKay's playing for Wellington this year, as it happens ;)
Yeah I know, can't believe they let him get away.

Would rather they used Lance Shaw, Michael Bates, Greg Morgan, Bhupinder Singh, Pieter Erasmus and co. though. They may not be much but come on, Bopara better? :p At least give them the opportunity.

Also find it somewhat annoying Bopara is barring Andrew de Boorder from moving up the order, and Jeet Raval when Bopara and Jones open.

Third 100 in a row for Neil Broom. It's a shame the New Zealand team doesn't have an opening at the moment.

Jesse Ryder will take that if Vettori stays at six.

Number three is the only opening if we drop the golden arm. Is Broom up to number three? Might be too much to ask but he's a definite reserve number four/five.
Till Ryder's fit get Broom to have a go. One of Ryder and Broom could possibly move to 3 if Guppy doesn't take it.

Sarcasm. Of course Broom should be in the team, I've been calling for his inclusion for close to a year now. The form he's in at the moment he should be the first person picked after Taylor and Vettori.

Jimmy Neesham was just discussed on RadioSport, apparently after scoring a double century in an Under 19 match the other day - very impressive effort. :)

Stupid Ingram. I do feel sorry for him though. Given his form for the past 3 or 4 seasons, he really should've been the next in line to get a shot at the opening gig. Don't imagine it'll be too long before Timmy Mac lets him have a go though...
