Yeah, Wagner played 3 seasons in SA. His outstanding FC record in SA makes his overall FC record look good, but his performances in NZ aren't nearly as great.

Yeah, his 79 wickets @ 18 for Northerns shouldn't really count for much; it's quite a poor standard of cricket. In his only 'proper' games in the South African domestic system, he took 3 wickets @ 40. I'm really not sure who he played against for 'South Africa Academy' but I don't imagine it to be too great an opposition either, so his First Class stats are really quite misleading.

Wagner moved to prey on a weaker system. Elliott has been here for yonks, was pretty average for a while and I suspect he knew it and I think he may even have citizenship and a girlfriend/wife here. He's a bit more kiwi than Wagner.

Plus he's Elliott.

Depends why they moved to begin with IMO. I have less issue with Wagner than with Elliot; Wagner's young and was pretty highly rated in South Africa when he moved so I'd be inclined to believe his motives were pure. The only thing that makes me feel uneasy is players thinking "Well I've done my lot and I'm never going to make it for my first country of choice so I'll just move to a weaker cricketing nation that I have no actual ties to and try to get a go in international cricket there" - and it always seemed to me as if that's what Elliot did, although I don't actually know the circumstances at all so I could be wrong.
