But until five minutes ago Neil Wagner was test class even though his record is about as good as Bennett's
Eh Phlegm wasn't saying get Bennett Wagner in the Test team he was just throwing out the names of players he felt were closer than those you were suggesting. He also admitted he was wrong mistaking OD form for a good FC bowler.

Wait, why am I wrong, has Hamish Bennett played test cricket in the last 20 minutes?

You made it out like Wagner was a far better bowler then Bennett which has proven not to be true.
And I admitted I got it wrong. He's still good in List A seemingly though.

Okay, if Hamish Bennett was picked tommorrow, how do you think he would go over the course of a year?

No, he said it was stupid of me to say Bennett's a better bowler because he had a better season last year (on average) then Wagner because of Wagner's "great" FC record. Something along the line of "His career average is almost 20 better or something like that".

In the same paragraph he mentioned how stats aren't the be all and end all.

*Sigh* For the third time, I admitted I was wrong. Read man.

Lance Shaw avaerages almost a Neil Broom ODI innings better than Bennett ftr. :p

Depends. If he was to play with this bowling attack:

Bond
Southee
Tuffey
Vettori
Bennett

He might go alright. If we were only going into a game with four bowlers however I wouldn't be to happy at this stage.

Oh and you still haven't answered my question.

BUT ANYWAY so our batting is **** eh? Can't find an opener to save ourselves.

I like Watling and hope he gets some runs.

Also interesting to note that Raval will soon have more tons than Guptill in FC.

Okay, so with his similar FC figures to Wagner, why should we pick a right arm seamer over a left arm seamer to add variety to the attack which you were wanting several pages back? Why would Wagner with his similar record do any worse than Bennett?

:p

And yet he drags stats into everything?
No I use them as a general guideline. When I see astronomical bowling averages I'm afraid the stats aren't lying. They never tell the full story but they are showing that Bennett would be a poor selection at this point.

When's Wagner ever shown the ability to run through a team at the FC level like Bennett has? Bennett would be selected in my team to bowl 10-15 overs a day of fast, hostile bowling trying to rip through a team as fast as he could.

Wagner's never done that and probably won't.

Lol

73 wickets at 39.84 with a strike rate of 64 and one 5fer? You've mised up his List A and FC strike rates too btw. His List A one is 34.

Lets see....who will you hate the most....Ewen Thompson strike rate is 57 and Lance Shaw's is 47. :p
^^^^ I think this is the offending stats-heavy post
McClenaghan rates Shaw ftr. :p

And no, Bennetts record is crap. He needs to improve it considerably.
Anyway, goodnight folks

From what I've seen, Wagner is currently a superior bowler to Bennett. Plus he provides left-arm variety to the attack and he'll still be young when he does qualify.

Have you seen Hamish Bennett bowl or followed him closely?

As do most people, me included. But as your've already stated, stats don't mean everything. Jesse Ryder two years ago looked like a poor selection for the one day team, yet his natural ablity allowed for him to be successful at this level.
