**Official** Pakistan in New Zealand (3 tests)

No, they're mediocre, but picking an underdeveloped kid who's a fraction slower than Iain O'Brien, on the basis of him having "talent" and reportedly performing well at a tournament made up of teams staffed with fringe FC players is not the answer.
Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane (Averaging 66 in FC cricket over 31 games) and Subramaniam Badrinath are just a little better then fringe FC players tbh.

Basis of bowling attack that we work around.

Actually nah! Get the untried quicks in
Southee yes, Tuffey meh. Past his best imo, he wont be around for much longer. Would be hard and foolish to build a team around him. Southee and Boult would be the better bet.

Is Guptil NZ's new Matt Horne? Neither knew how to bat, let alone open and both seem hell bent on being a bunny for the first new ball bowler who will bowl to them.....

Not at all IMO, even Southee shouldn't be having an attack formed around him. He should be slowly introduced like Parnell. To do it to Boult would be madness.

Well New Zealand doesn't really have a choice. Once Martin, Bond and O'Brien go we'll have to pick someone even if they're not fully ready. Imo Southee's already good enough to lead an attack (he's been one of the best domestic bowlers for 2-3 years now).

Surprised Flem didn't point to the fact that Wagner was the best OD bowler last year. Not exactly a good sign for your test attack but one we use all too often in NZ.
Not worth the effort making that kind of reply.

ITBT I didn't notice it.

Why are we even discussing the bowling line-up? The problem is not the damned bowling line-up. How many of the teams runs were scored by the # 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5? Around 25%?

AND WE ARE TALKING ABOUT BRINGING IN BOWLERS!

8-) 8-) 8-)
****ing awesome post. Reminds me of the second Test when all the commentators wanted to do was talk about Shane ****ing Bond and the hole he left in the team despite the fact that his replacement took 4 in the first innings and then the batting got rolled for less than a hundred runs. If I was working for Sky at the time I'd have put up Shane Bond's First Class batting record in an attempt to get the commentators to justify their comments about the supposed saviour.

The bowling attack is good. It's not awesome but it's good - certainly good enough to have New Zealand in the top five of world cricket IMO should their batting be equally as good, which it isn't even close to really.

No. They're still a guideline though. When a bowler makes his test debut its always helpful to see an average closer to 20 than 40.
I'm not that much of an expert, but was Wagner playing for a FC franchise over in SA. Because if he wasn't his fantastic record might be a bit of a myth.

That would need to be checked. I can't keep track of their system.

He's still an excellent bowler though.

Pretty sure he was.
Edi: Wagner played for the Northerns. Didn't actually realise he was only 23 either.

Wagner played 3 seasons in SA. His outstanding provincial FC record in SA makes his overall FC record look good, but his performances in NZ aren't nearly as great.

Neil Wagner - FC Bowling

EDIT: His franchise record isn't as great either

Neil Wagner - FC bowling by team
