**Official** Pakistan in New Zealand (3 tests)

I wouldn't necessarily say Bennett is poor, he's been improving year on year, and is still only 22. However, you're right in that he's never been anything more than ok in FC cricket, and until he starts performing consistently excellent there's no point in even raising his name.
Yea because our current seamers are that great?

While points 1-3 might sound stupid, they're not as bad as you make them out to be. If I'm selecting between a few players and can't decide on who to pick age might come into it. No point picking a 30+ batsmen/bowler if he's only slightly better then a 24 year old.

Pace well, everyone likes pace. Even if Thompson and Shaw's record's are better looking then Bennett's the chances of them having anymore success at test level then him are very, very slim. How much more can 125-130K pacers improve? Sinclair's stated on here before that the best way for young bowlers to improve is to get them bowling at better players

As for ND players, well we have the best domestic team with the best talent in the country so of course that plays a part.

Yup, your batting line up which relies so heavily on Yovich now Williamson's lost form shows it.

How much can 125-130 seamers improve? Watch Daryl Tuffey's debut, then watch him in 2003.

Watch Iain O'Brien's debut, watch him now. He's 130-140 bar this last freakish series, but still.

Lance Shaw has done perfectly fine for NZ A. I never suggested him for a second there and you know it, I was just finding a 125kph+ bowler to wind you up, but is he more ready at this point for test cricket than Bennett? IMO yes.

He's getting better but seriously...picking him now?
I don't agree with blooding him now against a top 8 nation, but we do have to bring in someone new against Bangladesh.
Whether it's a safe option like Arnel or someone unexpected, a home series against not so great competition is the best time to give someone a go.

Where are we on the table again, with this god awful batting line-up we supposably have we must be last?

Wasn't 2003 the year of the green seamers that followed India around?

Why are we even discussing the bowling line-up? The problem is not the damned bowling line-up. How many of the teams runs were scored by the # 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5? Around 25%?

AND WE ARE TALKING ABOUT BRINGING IN BOWLERS!

8-) 8-) 8-)

Agreed. Rest Tuffey, Martin and Bond and play Southee and co.

I think it's because of the lack of penetration today on this flat deck.
Any time is a good time to discuss bowlers, after all we do have a retirement occurring after this series, injury prone Bond and old man Martin

No, they're mediocre, but picking an underdeveloped kid who's a fraction slower than Iain O'Brien, on the basis of him having "talent" and reportedly performing well at a tournament made up of teams staffed with fringe FC players is not the answer.

Well it wasn't the best day of bowling, but tbph, Pakistan relied on one person (a leggie no less) to get rid of the bulk of our batting. Getting wickets on this pitch is more luck than anything, all we can do is bowl the same line over and over and hope the batsman makes a mistake, that isn't going to change no matter who is bowling for us.

With Vettori at six, to get back in the side Franklin will have to improve his bowling and slot in at eight.
I wonder whether Franklin's bowling will have deteriorated a bit due to his latest injury, his future international career isn't looking too rosy at the moment.
