While points 1-3 might sound stupid, they're not as bad as you make them out to be. If I'm selecting between a few players and can't decide on who to pick age might come into it. No point picking a 30+ batsmen/bowler if he's only slightly better then a 24 year old.

Pace well, everyone likes pace. Even if Thompson and Shaw's record's are better looking then Bennett's the chances of them having anymore success at test level then him are very, very slim. How much more can 125-130K pacers improve? Sinclair's stated on here before that the best way for young bowlers to improve is to get them bowling at better players

As for ND players, well we have the best domestic team with the best talent in the country so of course that plays a part.

His last season tally of 26 (FC) wickets @ 29.26 isn't poor, and he has shown he can produce matching winning spells, like when he bowled Canterbury to winning the State Championship in 2008.

But he's to quick so he musn't have very good control, we'd be much safer picking Lance Shaw

He's getting better but seriously...picking him now?

I know after the McClenaghan thing the second I say someone over 135kph isn't very good I'll get jumped all over but if we pick the guy now, a season or two of good form too early....enjoy.

And i always get stuck in when Howsie starts bitching about pace. Its cringeworthy.

I wouldn't necessarily say Bennett is poor, he's been improving year on year, and is still only 22. However, you're right in that he's never been anything more than ok in FC cricket, and until he starts performing consistently excellent there's no point in even raising his name.
