Hazelwood certainly knows how to pick up wickets, only a matter of time before that becomes a bunch. Starc is awesome, great to have him back.

Not a bad game for captain Henriques thus far. A fighting half-century, and a couple of wickets.

Victoria really on the ropes at the MCG. Long way to go to even pass the follow-on. Wade batting well though, playing his usual counter-attacking style. George looks really deadly; everytime he puts the ball on a good length it seems to have the batsman playing and missing.

Who is Starc and why is he taking wickets?
Tall left arm who is similar to Mitchell Johnson in a number of ways. Where he differs is his action is better and hes got better control.

BTW am I seeing right, why on earth did Victoria declare 300 runs behind?

Edit: Ah I see its day 3, thought it was day 2. Fair enough I guess. SA will be looking for 400 at least.

Yeah Noble One I made it to the GABBA today and watched over 400 runs for the loss of only 6 wickets! It wasn't a flat pitch at all, just good aggressive batting at times and some loose bowling.

First up, I'm very impressed with Khawaja he just looks so solid at the crease. Some of his drives off Simpson were pure class, he had a long off and two short covers and pierced the ball between those 2 cover fielders for four on a couple of occasions they were very classy shots.

Steven Smith batted fantastically too, he was super aggressive. The QLD bowlers looked like they were trying to get him out hooking, but he just punished heaps of the short balls, he actually was seeing the ball too early as on a few occasions he pulled the ball straight past the bowler. Hopes dropped a catch that went straight to him when he was on about 80 and Hartley dropped one back when he was on around 30 or so. He's definitely one of the hardest hitters of the cricket ball, so many of his blocks went quickly to mid off or cover.

None of the QLD bowlers looked that good. Cutting bowled too short, Walter probably needs to get dropped for Swan, Harris drew the edge that Hartley dropped, he looked probably the best of the quicks. Hopes just bowled the way he normally does, just a steady line with a few effort balls.

On to the QLD innings and I can't wait until Broad and Kruger come back!

The openers both nicked good balls to Steven Smith off the bowling of Starc. Starc didn't look good in his first over before lunch, but after the lunch break he produced a very good spell. He looked like Mitch Johnson when Johnson is bowling a good line.

I was really disappointed with Reardon being squared up and out for a duck and Phillipson was unlucky getting an edge to ball a going down legside. Carseldine looked good, he did a nothing shot to get out though, he decided to leave it at the last second and it went straight to Steven Smith once again.

Hopes should have been caught and bowled when on 2 by Henriques, he ended up getting out to a silly shot straight to square leg.

After this, Hartley and Simpson produced an excellent partnership. Simpson offered great support, he started really slowly, but NSW started bowling some loose balls and Simpson punished them.

Hartley's innings was excellent, he didn't even look like getting out. I was very impressed.

Bird and Lambert weren't anything too special, Henriques had figures of 1/18 off his first 2 overs, after that he bowled well.

Steven Smith was extremely rubbish and should not be used as the teams only spinner. Starc was definitely the pick of the bowlers.

Great report.

How did Bird's action look?

Also what was Smith's major failing with the ball today? Dropping the ball too short again?

Bird's action was fine. I was watching from behind him and there were no signs of a bent arm. He didn't do anything with the ball though and looked the worst of the NSW quicks.

Actually I thought Steven Smith's straight ball/attempted wrong 'un looked more suspect, but I would probably rather watch his action again on TV before I say flat out that it's dodgy.

Smith was bowling far too short or full tosses, he didn't bowl well at all. His figures actually looked worse at one point. Close to stumps Simpson played out a few none threatning maidens.

All 3 innings were declared....ITSTL. Has that ever happened before?

That was in the Victoria/SA.

And NSW, tsk tsk. Should've pushed our advantage further.

Why? You need the time to bowl a team out twice, and everyone knows how unpredictable the rain in Brisbane can be. Only way to make a Shield final is to rely on outright victories, not first innings points.

Vics 1/152

Can they do it?
Looking more likely with every Hodge stroke. The pitch is still in prime batting condition, the cooler weather in Melbourne has stopped the pitch from breaking up and becoming uneven. Long way to go, and Victoria did collapse in the first innings. Game is going to end up a win for one of the two teams you feel.

Great work by QLD to end with first innings points and have the blues 4/118. Just need to roll through the next 6 wickets and chase down a total of ~200, which is definately doable.

Great stuff, did it with ease. Fifteen straight outrights for Victoria, incredible record.

Credit to South Australia. The better team for much of the game, only issue that needs sorting is the bowling. I have been harping on all season that Christian and O'Brien should not both be playing as specialist bowlers. Fix the bowling situation, and South Australia will become a very dangerous team.

Great work QLD, had to do a double take at the score, I couldn't really believe it.

Simpson has really stepped up with the bat this year, he's now scored 284 runs @ 47.33. Hartley's 424 runs @ 70.66 is superb too.
