ROBINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN! Qualifies for the semis. Considering he was a replacement for Roddick, what an effort!

Gun. Was again, brilliant value at $3.5 against a very very tired Novak.

Man, makes you wonder whether Novak has played too much tennis in an effort to increase his ranking and confidence considering his mediocre Grand Slams (for his talent). Easily played the most tennis matches this year (around 15-20 more than Rafa, who is second). He may have won in Basel beating Roger and winning Paris Masters 1000 was important, but he looks absolutely spent. Not sure if he can defend his title this year.

Federer now joins Ivan Lendl as the only players to have held, lost and regained the ATP World Tour Champion title in the history of the South African Airways ATP Rankings (since 1973).

**** he's good. Needs one more year-end no 1 ranking (aka World Tour Champion) to equal Sampras.

Reckon the fatigue might carry over into the Aus Open?

Do you get out to the Open at all Jono? Can tell from the thread you're a massive tennis follower. Wondering if you get the chance to go out and watch at all.

If he really is fatigued, then I hope he doesn't play the Abu Dhabi exhibition. Might be a ****load of money on offer, but the last thing he needs is another retirement at a Slam.

And FANTASTIC news for Söderling. He sure as **** doesn't want to draw Federer in the semis considering his record, but he's made the best of a good group. Probably should qualify top of the group from here.

Nadal is playing at 85% at the moment and with no confidence. If he wasn't so mentally tough he'd be getting smashed even more.

Almost makes me cry seeing him play like this :(

I don't think so Burgey. I'm sure he's smart enough to take a heap of time off. And like SBI says, he probably shouldn't play the Abu Dhabi exhibition. Nadal, Fed, Blake, Murray, Davydenko etc. played it last year and obviously filled their pockets up (especially Murray as he won the thing) but it has no ranking points.

Money probably isn't Novak's worry to be honest. You can tell he loves tennis and wants to be the best. He's not in it for the money.

And yeah I've been to the Aust Open a few times (03, 04, 07) but haven't gone in the last 2 years, which I'm very disappointed in. I'll definitely be going at the 2010 one. I'll probably spend big and try and get tickets to a 2nd week Federer match - want to be able to say I saw him live before he retires.

I'm probably the only person who thinks this, but I reckon it'd be better for him if he came up against Roger in the semi than the final. He'd have less chance of letting the occasion get to him.

His last two matches against Roger were very very promising IMO. Should have taken Roger to 5 at the US Open. He just doesn't win those major points against him, and at the end of the day, tennis is about when you win the points, now how many.

His match vs. Davydenko is important though. Because you are right, if he avoids Federer in the semi, and beats Davydenko, then Novak probably gets through to the semis and he can beat Federer. He'd then back himself to take out Novak in the final.

getting novak in the semis won't be good for federer....would be much better for him if soderling and davydenko go through rather than the djoker...

Man Davydenko can play some ****ing amazing attacking tennis at times. He takes the ball so early, no wonder he has such a good record against Nadal on hard courts (particularly indoor hard).

Anil, you're right. Davy will never beat Roger, no matter how good he plays. If Novak doesn't get through, Roger will have one hand on the cup.

Murray sneaks past Verdasco in a third set tiebreak.

If Federer beats JMDP, Murray and Fed go through.

If JMDP beats Federer in 2 sets, Federer is out.

If JMDP beats Federer in 3 sets, it'll come down to who won the more games throughout the 3 matches to decide who goes through.

Fed getting slaughtered in this first set.

He needs to at least win the second, otherwise he's out!

Anytime:)

Del Potro wins the match, but Fed and he go through. Del Potro would of gone out even if he'd won a tie-break against fed, had to break him and did.

Murray out:cool:
Must say I haven't been watchign this because of the time zones and being at work, but the format of this tournament really appeals to me - having the best 8 players who are available.

Nice to see Murray out tbh. Really think this Del Potro kid might have a booming year in 2010 (cue a plague of locusts on him after that prediction).

After he won the first set I made a bet of him to win it in 3.

You knew Roger would at least win the 2nd. He had to qualify (though came close to losing in straight sets).

Poor Murray lol. Shouldn't have lost a set to Verdasco you douche.

Semi-finals:

Federer vs. Davydenko

Juan Martin Del Potro vs. Soderling

Fed has a 12-0 record against Davy, but he's probably never played as well as he has this year to be honest. Still, you'd back Federer to demolish Davy if he's anywhere near at his best.

JMDP vs. Soderling is a ripper. I'm not going to put any money on that. I'll just objectively watch the awesomeness.

Nadal, Djokovic and Murray not going through is big (Nadal didnt even win a set, let alone a match), but considering Federer was a few points in a tiebreak vs. JMDP from not going through, it could have been even bigger.

Imagine if Fed, Nadal and Novak didn't make the semis :-O
