Yea because he bowl's long hops all day. He'd do no worse then Ian Butler who's been far below average since coming into the team.
He would do worse actualy. Leave the guy to work on his game somewhere that isn't international cricket in the UAE.

Anyway, congrats Pakistan. Outplayed our fragile little batting line up.

Redmond though, that was unexpected. I hope there's more to come and not him being retained for ten games and doing nothing.

Worst coach ever! Sack him now.

Poor overall performance really. Butler and N McCullum really let us down in the bowling. Batting however was dreadful, will be interesting to see how they come back from this.

Disappointing performance - when I went to bed Pakistan were about 45/2 at a RR of 3 and I never would have thought 287 was on. Well done to Pakistan for not panicing with their slow early run rate. Though 92 runs off the last 7 overs FFS - I can only imagine some rubbish bowling.

The batting collapse was far too predictable IMO considering the bowler-heavy side NZ used. Nine runs between Guptill, Taylor and Styris was a big loss and would have expected better, but a combined 18 runs in a pressure situation from the last five batsman (Oram down) was pretty much in line with my expectations. Totally unnecessary to play that many bowlers... what's N McCullum doing in the team if he only bowls 3 overs?

Thank **** Mills is meant to be fit soon. Next game, please bring in Mills and a batsman Broom/ Watling/ Franklin for two of Butler, Southee & N McCullum.

Was just reading the ball by ball commentary on cricinfo....much low on detail.....they were scoring decently against Afridi till he took 2 on 2....and didn't give a wicket to Ajmal either....until Redmond fell......so didn't know how close things were..

To be honest....if their ever was a good batting pair in recent times for NZ then it was Fleming and Astle.....haven't seen a single quality batsman after them....Jesse looked very promising but needs to work on his fitness......

In bowling...there is some good talent their....especially with Bond and Vettori....good 20 overs are a must from this bowling line up.

Southee bowled great.

Southee bowled great.
Except for that one over though. I really liked from what I saw of Tim Southee tbh, it looks as though he's got some of his confindence back which is a good thing.

What I liked about his bowling:

-He had his fantastic seam position back, which in turn allowed him to swing the ball for quite awhile.
-He was getting a lot closer to the stumps, something I've wanted him to do since the England tour last year
-He wasn't falling away (something he said he's been working on)
-He looked fitter, even the commentators mentioned it.

The fastest ball I seen him deliver during the innings was 136, and his average was around 131 so it would be nice if he could add five or so K's onto his speed. But you don't know, maybe he was just bowling within himself so he wasn't spanked around early.

Even that one over wasn't the worst, good bowling managed to get 20 runs not dreadful bowling. He was a little off his length but probably didn't deserve to be spanked so badly.

Yeah even Waqar was saying how excellent he looked and that all he needs now is pace.

The question is, how do you get that extra bit of pace without ruining him. I remember Mark Richardson saying that when New Zealand toured England last year the New Zealand coaches were able to help Southee find some quite impressive speed, the only thing wrong was that he lost all his shape with the ball because his wrist position changed so much.

He has the ability to bowl quick (140) but it's finding the right way to get it that's the problem.

Southee bowled great.
Yeah does look like he did well. Will probably be preferred to Butler now so good on him. Oram's bowling was also decent in those conditions, though he avoided the hard task of bowling at the death.

Next game Mills in for Butler then. And also need to bring in a batsman, if not for Southee then in place of N McCullum.

Still, we're not going to win unless the top 5 batsmen start doing something. Wondering again if Taylor would be better at 6.

PS: Well done to Redmond for his 50. Looks like there was a fair amount of poking and prodding and being tied in knots involved but can't argue with scoring runs.

So.

Fail much?

Only we could get beaten by Afridi playing with his brain. Since when did that ever happen?
It would be very unfair if Afridi were to do that again (with the bat) this series :@

Would be kinda similar to how Sehwag almost single-handedly beat us in the ODIs against India at home - without that happening game after game the series would have been pretty close. But with it it was basically 'India win'.
