Think Ronchi gets a bad wrap at times about "shot selection". He's just a horrific, horrific starter. He doesn't really get out after getting a start more often than other players, its just that he gets a start less often.
Sounds like the wrongest style for an opening bat you could imagine!

Marsh hasn't played much cricket in recent times, so there is no way to gauge his form, anyways losing Paine is a big blow, we would have to tinker with the whole team combination and that wouldn't allow us to fit in a bloke like Henriques or Hopes into the current line-up.
I guess Manou is going to be the replacement for Paine now, but I would have loved to see Ronchi get a go, but his batting form in recent times hardly makes a case for that, which is kind of a shame, because the bloke is a naturally gifted striker of the ball, but obviously judging by his shot selections he seems to have **** for brains.
Marsh has played a bit of cricket. He scored 70 in a 4 dayer against QLD and 30 odd I think not out. He also played one 50 over match and obviously played last night too.

Ronchi has got absolutely no reason to get an Australian call up, which gives him a great chance of being called up. 8-)

Must say, Paines catch in the last over was outstanding.
...And the fact he was keeping since the 8th over and taking all those catches with a broken finger makes his effort even more outstanding.
Anyways Manou now being officially choosen as the replacement for Paine, what it does is, that it would make the batting line-up a bit more fragile, which just goes onto show that these days its imperative that with the bat your wicket-keeper contributes just as much as any of the other batsmen in the side.

So what will the side look like then?

Watson
Marsh
Ponting
White
Hussey
Voges
Manou+
Johnson
Hauritz
Siddle
Bollinger/Hilfenhaus

Still not the worst batting order, really.

Not a great attack though, Hauritz probably the best credentialled on current form, though Sids has done well in his few outings.

Surely Dougy will get a run - or else they may as well leave him home. He's become the new Andy Bichel - all he does is collect passport stamps!

Poor shot selection is something that makes him such a horrible starter, Ronchi isn't a slogger and he is someone who has got a wide array of strokes and that strength has proved to be big weakness in his case.
Whichever way one looks at it, its just a shame to see the way his career has hit rock bottom in the last 18 months.

Dougie doesn't play because the team management aren't too keen on having him and Johnson in the same side, (both being left arm quicks), the thinking doesn't make any sense, but that's how things are.
Lee though should hopefully be back for the next game, so that is something that could help the bowling attack, but in case he doesn't play then we should persist with Hilfy, as there is no point in chopping and changing the side after one horrible game.

So you're saying that just because one decision defies logic, then all selection decisions should defy logic?

We definitely will miss having a Hopes/Henriques as the 6th bowling option. Unless we go with Hussey as keeper which allows as to go that way.

Was there any information about how bad Lee's injury was? Just a niggle or something more serious? This can't be doing his prospects of playing tests much good at all.

White at four doesn't really convince me at the moment. He's a bit two-paced for that position- he seems to either blocks or slog.

He has well and truly kept the blocking phenomena going in the absence of Clarke, think we should push Voges to 4 and White to 6, Voges seems to be much busier player and the kind of bloke who would more suited than White to bat at 4.

The obvious answer is to bat Hussey at 4. He looks more assured against spin and is in great touch.

Might be worth trying Voges at 4, White should be told to fill the Symonds role and stop batting like a snail.

I would get rid of either Marsh, Voges or White - leaning towards the exclusion of Marsh tbh. That leaves us with..

1. Watson
2. Manou - means everyone else can stay in positions they are used to.
3. Ponting
4. White
5. Hussey
6. Voges
7. Henriques - extra bowling really.
8. Johnson
9. Hauritz
10. Siddle
11. Bollinger
