I actually thought they'd have touring selectors who go and watch the games live.

Doesn't really matter in the end considering that they pick by drawing names out a hat.

Just because the other selectors have foxtel doesn't mean they watch the Cricket!

On the otherhand, Hughes said he was following the matches online, perhaps live streaming?

Would love Hughes to be one of the people trawling through forums like this looking for a streaming link.

My opinion of Merv continues to diminsh.

As if you'd knock back a free Foxtel subscription. Un-Australian imo.

Even if he didn't want to watch the ODD stuff, what about looking at the televised series played overseas not involving Australia? You'd think a selector might see them and get an idea re. conditions, opposition strengths and weaknesses etc.

Unbelieveable.

Damn AUS could really get smoked in this series now. Losing Paine really affects the balance of the team.

Apparently Haddin is fit for FC cricket, as of this week. Hope that means that you guys don't have to call up your fourth choice keeper.
Playing in a Futures match, tbh. Just to test out the finger so he'll be going pretty lightly.

Is Paine that big a loss? His half-decent start to his ODI career has seemingly transformed into an all-conquering awesomefest in people's minds, it seems.

Prior to his call-up I got the impression that all the keepers after Haddin were thought to be much of a muchness.

I'd prefer we didn't rush Haddin back to play an ODI series when we've still got a full summers Test cricket ahead of us.

It's more the fact that he and Watson had established a reasonably solid opening combination, something which the team has been desperately missing since the retirement of Hayden.

AWTA, especially on 'keeping. I think the attention is largely due to his batting, he's the best of the 'keepers who can actually bat' in OZ right now, Hartley's current form notwithstanding.

i'd imagine the aussies will bring in someone like a chris hartley into the side, they don't need an opener otherwise i'd go for luke ronchi.

im a kiwi but this series is a real interest was up all night last night watchin it on cricinfo. raina played really well if he had of gotten out early it could of been a completely different result. the run chase seemed a bit messed up, cameron white had a sr of 50 if that and at one point hussey and voges had scored a mere 18 runs of 5 overs against yuvraj and harbhajan.

i don't have a team i'd like to see win it but just love the contest. also be nice to see mr tendulkar get some runs. bollinger for hilfenhaus for the next game. also wats the deal with james hopes seems like the modern day ian harvey a whole lot of nothing. henriques seems like the guy to replace him. young guy with a big future.

God Lord, why? He's not even opening for WA and batting outside the top-7 in Shield cricket.

His loss for the remainder of this series is big because it affects the balance of team. Given having him opening gave AUS the option of playing Henriques/Hopes @ 7 & having 6bowlers which in key given how Watto is bowling ATM. Whichever keeper is called up (Wade, Hartley, Mano maybe) will bat @ 8 & Marsh will open with Watto.

Marsh is pretty good opening I reckon. I wonder what his form's like now, haven't seen him in a while.

Marsh hasn't played much cricket in recent times, so there is no way to gauge his form, anyways losing Paine is a big blow, we would have to tinker with the whole team combination and that wouldn't allow us to fit in a bloke like Henriques or Hopes into the current line-up.
I guess Manou is going to be the replacement for Paine now, but I would have loved to see Ronchi get a go, but his batting form in recent times hardly makes a case for that, which is kind of a shame, because the bloke is a naturally gifted striker of the ball, but obviously judging by his shot selections he seems to have **** for brains.

Think Ronchi gets a bad wrap at times about "shot selection". He's just a horrific, horrific starter. He doesn't really get out after getting a start more often than other players, its just that he gets a start less often.
