*Official* Australia in India - ODIs

This was a flat pitch. 315 was a part score on this pitch (IMO). Dhoni said during toss that they should aim to get 300 and not 320 or 330 and shouldn't get carried away. 320-330 was always on the cards on this pitch. Once you score that many runs, more often than not, you win.

I won't argue till death over this Manee. But Tyagi has been given his due. He HAS been selected in the ODI squad.
The point is that Munaf has been selected pretty much on the back of picking apart a team who had already been decimated by Tyagi. They were 49/4 when he came into the attack. I am unconvinced that he has shown, to a sufficiently undeniable level, a large degree of ODI improvement.

This is kind of embarrassing, the bowling was poor, but the lack of intent shown by the batsmen while chasing such a huge total is even more frustrating, even though the bowling from Indian bowlers has been pretty good, but still we have been batting as if we're out there having a net.

Lack of intent indeed. No-one has the confidence to go after the bowlers, and although this is noble batting by Voges and Hussey, it won't win us the game.

Yawn. Will at least be interesting to see how Marsh goes coming in down the order. Gives Voges a shot at making a decent innings as well.

At least after this match, Marsh should be back opening and Hilfenhaus won't play for a long while. Surely.

Marsh opening instead of who, out of interest?

Agreed about Hilfy in ODIs, just doesn't seem suited to the format.

I'm asking why it would have been a better decision to bat first? The dew factor is significant, and you can see the problems India are having, they are fortunate that they bowled well up front and took the wickets.
You don't decide to bowl first just because of the dew factor, that is a natural phenomena and as a team you can't control that, but what you can do is bat first on a batting deck and set a challenging total, and if you do that then you would always be in with a chance, but on the other hand chasing 300+ under any circumstances is gonna prove to be mighty tough.

Paine.

Hilfenhaus not suited to cricket in general imo, but that's another story. ;)

Shaun Marsh makes his entry. Allan: "Shaun Marsh is an opening batsmen while both Watson and Paine are make shift openers! What sense does it make playing him at #7. I know the Aussies can adapt well, however, this is pushing it a little too far. It is like getting Ghambir to bat at 7 while Jadeja or Pathan open the innings"
Good stuff from Allan.

I thought Paine was always an opener domestically? And Watson's hardly a makeshift opener in ODIs, I would have thought it's his most commonly batted position.

That was a superb delivery from Ravi to get Mussey. I still think he is good enough against non-subcontinental teams to play purely as a bowler in the side.
