Moles Resigns; NZ Coaching Situation

"Matt Keeton (Takapuna)
Thursday October 22, 2009 I be it is people in there like McCullum who quite simply is in it for one person only, himself. Let's face it, he has never been up to the mark as batsman or gloveman. He should have been dumped years ago. he is the bad apple and things will continue to fester while he is there."

Some people have no idea. While I am annoyed at McCullum's performances with the bat over the past year you can't argue that he is one of, if not the best, keeper in the world. Not entirely sure how anyone would know whats going on behind the scenes with any of the players/management without being directly involved.

Matt Keeton of Takapuna, give yourself an uppercut.

I can't help but notice that most of the ******** NZ herald posters across all subjects hail from somewhere in Auckland.:p

Andrew Saville?

Why would any player admit they are short of talent, lack work ethic and are somewhat aweful by international standards, thus jeopardising a lucrative income? It's much smarter to make out it's the coach. As for cricket itself, I think the sport believes too much in it's own importance. I don't know any kids who play or even want to play the game. I know lots of kids playing soccer, golf, hockey and tennis.

Sounds like Mark Watson's crap radio talkback tbh.

Anyway, Flem isn't going to coach the side. According to 3 news.

That's right. Agree entirely with Fleming that now is not the right time for him to be coach. Though he also seems to say he's not interested in international coaching full stop, which would be a shame.

bring in steve rixon or another guy who's not going to take any crap or poor performances. most of the black caps did pretty well in their first 10 or so games but then just expected to get picked. whilst the domestic scene isn't filled with talent maybe the thought of being dropped will scare these guys into some form. we got pakistan bangladesh and australia this season, not easy beats (considering we barely beat bangladesh last year, well vettori beat bangladesh that is)

I would be happy with Rixon or Wright. Both have experience at the highest level and will be able to help them out techniquely. If Wright isnt a good enough man manager then lets get a good MANAGER!

You'd think Wright would be the best candidate for the job. I guess it's down to him if he wants it or not, as I know he said earlier in the year he wanted to focus a bit more on his family, or living at New Zealand (something like that).

Vettori doesn't want Wright. And Vaughn doesn't want anybody who Vettori doesn't want. End of story for Wright. Why Vettori doesn't value Wright as a coach perplexes me. He must know something we don't.

John Dyson enters race to be New Zealand coach | New Zealand Cricket News | Cricinfo.com

I'd forgotten about old Dyson, he seems to regularly get shafted by whoever he coaches
He'd be a good choice, with loads of experience. It seems like things will boil down to a two horse race between Dyson and Rixon.

John Wright really needs to communicate more , he could have at least said he was giving it some thought it by now.
So replace a coach who had previously been dumped by two other international teams... with one who has previously been dumped by two international teams?

Yeah, seems strange. Mutterings about Wright being a poor organiser but as others have said that can easily be remedied by recuiting a good man-manager. And also no-one seems sure whether Wright wants the job (or at least it hasn't been made public).

But really, if Wright can make a success of the differing personalities and enormous pressures of coaching India that must say a huge amount about his abilities, regardless of these other issues. Perhaps he really is saying he doesn't want the job... or doesn't want it yet.

Dyson's a beast, he was just set up to fail by the WICB with that whole 64354 XI debacle
Plus when they offered him a new contract, they gave him one with the wrong name on it
He has a reasonable record for the teams he coached, I suppose the obvious recent black mark was that Duckworth-Lewis ****-up, but I'm sure he has learned from that.
Sri Lanka losing to us at home, being demolished by Martin and smacked around by Vincent and Harshall is another

It's not like he was sacked in the circumstances that Moles has been through over and over, he just didn't have his contracts renewed.

Sri Lanka hint at persisting with Dyson | Cricket News | Global | Cricinfo.com

This old article suggests that the players thought he was ok - just the administrators weren't fans of his necessarily. I guess he wasn't there first choice to begin with so when they had a chance to upgrade they took it?
Yeah, Dyson was well liked by the Sri Lankan players, but there was some politics within the board and administration back then. There was a huge clean-out of the management in 2005, with the board being dissolved and the government getting involved. It coincided with Dyson's contract renewal.

SLC undecided over Dyson contract extension | Sri Lanka Cricket News | Cricinfo.com
Cricinfo said:
However, Dyson, like Whatmore before him, found the anti-foreign-coach sentiment running high. Dyson's decision, apparently without consultation with Sri Lanka Cricket, to return straight to Australia after the abandoned New Zealand tour had irked members of the board...

...In addition, Sri Lanka Cricket's conduct over his contract will be watched very carefully by his potential international replacements. The poor treatment of Whatmore and the insecurity created by internal cricket politics was widely believed to have frightened away several coaches the last time the board went head-hunting.

Millmow endorsed Wright today in the Dominion Post. FWIW he also suggested that Wright has made an application to NZ cricket.

Millmow's an idiot though
Would anyone give a flying crap who he endorses?

But yeah, it is rumored that Wright might have actually shown interest. You'd think he'd actually say something himself...

Edit: I don't think having both Wright and Rixon would work, Rixon doesn't seem like the kind of fellow who would want to play second fiddle and just 'assist'.
