*Official* Australia in India - ODIs

So how much would the BCCI have to pay Watto to convince him to seek Indian citizenship and play for India? IMO that should be the next big thing in cricket, it'd be easy for some of the bigwigs in BCCI to pass a law through parliament to grant immediate citizenship to all Australian, South African and English first class cricket players. :D

$10million in cash plus promise of massive endorsements should do it, chump change for the BCCI.

Thoughts on Praveen Kumar?

He looks seriously short of a gallop, I was thinking about it but I doubt he'd make an Australian state side with the way he bowls. Definitely looked the goods with the bat the other day, I'm looking forward to seeing if his bowling improves.

Heh, would rather be beaten over the face repeatedly with a baseball that than see that happen.

Didn't see the game but what I've seen of Kumar before he'd walt into just ebout every Aussie state side. Really, really good genuine swing bowler when on song. There are none like him in Australia.

Rate him highly for ODI cricket. Reckon he will be in the side for the next 2-3 years or at least I wish he is.

Fair enough guys, just thought he looked woeful and can't really remember seeing much of him before the other day. I'm sure he's better then what he showed with the ball, you don't make Team India without some talent.

Ajay Ratra, Sameer Dighe and MSK Prasad disagree.:p

Damn serious injury woes. Too bad Henriques cant make it in time. Paine may have to bat @ 7.

Watson

Hussey
Voges
Paine
Hauritz
Siddle
Hilfy
Bollinger

Would have loved it if Nannes was in the ODI squad

If Yuvraj returns for the second ODI, he has a chance to ease into the team by facing an attack that doesn't have Lee and MJ in it.

Backing him for a match-winning ton followed by an instant recall to the Test side. Then, to average sub 35 in both forms for 2 years before the Indian selectors look to replace him saying, "We honestly thought he'd turned the corner. I mean, come on, a ton against Australia!"

Hang on, Ajay Ratra made it because the keeper before him kept dropping catches, while he was a lot faster and had better reflexes. He missed out because of India's farcical search for an Adam Gilchrist. Even Dhoni doesn't keep as well as he did. Likewise, Dighe, dubbed a batsman masquerading as a keeper, was a very under-rated lower-order batsman who made his debut very late and inexplicably lost his place to Dasgupta. The only one who was lucky was MSK Prasad, a token South player at that time, alongside Noel David and David Johnson.

Bollinger - tip him to do well
Hilfy - shouldnt even be in the squad
Siddle - jury is well and truly out
Hauritz - good bowler
Watto - average at best
Rest - ugh

Be interesting to know when we last fielded a worse attack

Paine is going so well opening especially against India so I would keep him at opener. Watson at 4 pushing everyone down one would be perfect. White into the Symonds role, Hussey back to his usual number 6 and Voges to provide a steady hand at 7. Agree on Henriques, would be so much better with him there, also gives us a big hitter at 7.

Every time I've seen him bowl, he strikes me as an inaccurate, medium pace swinger with an average action

He's obviously bowled well from time to time but, like you, I've missed it

I can't see why we shouldn't bring in Holland with these injuries. I agree that Hilfenhaus shouldn't be in the squad, he's just not that great at OD matches.

The loss of Lee and Johnson definitely impacts both the batting and the lower order. I would love it if someone like Clint McKay got a call up for Johnson or Lee and Henriques or a spinning allrounder such as Marcus North could come in for Hopes.

Yup, agreed. I saw him bowl quite well at the SCG but otherwise, doubt he'd get a go in the starting XI of the strong Shield sides. One reason there have been many genuine swing bowlers in Shield cricket is the near total lack of conditions which are suited to it. QLD sometimes and someone willing to push into the Doctor in Perth would do well but otherwise, pretty barren. Guys who bowl 125Km/h tend to be fodder.

Jesus, Lee and Johnson out too?

So that's more than half of the (selectors') first choice XI out: Clarke, Haddin, Ferguson, Bracken, Lee, Johnson and Hopes. Hopefully giving Hilf an extended run will help the selectors realise it's not a good idea.

Crikey, the Aussies are having a nightmare with injuries. Only three players tomorrow will have played 50 ODIs (Ponting, Hussey, Watson). That's a hell of an inexperienced team. Bowling attack especially.

As far as I can think, there aren't any experienced players back in Australia who could come in to the squad, is that true?
