I'd have delayed taking the powerplay, and if a wicket fell around the 35th over anyway, sent in Jadeja to do the running between the wickets.

That apart, the Indians' running has been fair, with the leeway given by the Aussie fielding, but their batting lacks power, yet again. Not enough hits have gone to the fence to make up for the excess dots. Two genuine attempts to accelerate and clear the ropes ended up in catching chances. Besides, we haven't seen a single innovative shot by the Indians- no reverse sweep, no Dilscoop, no switch-hits- nothing to put pressure on the Aussie fielding. Their fielding has been world class, but the Indians have exerted so little pressure on them that they only got tighter.

I'm not blaming the wicket on the powerplay. But the question you have to ask yourself before taking the powerplay is: if a wicket goes down first ball, will it still be a good idea to attack? When the answer is no, it's too soon to take it.

Tim Paine gone. It was a good innings by Tim Paine, he's been very impressive. I'd much rather have him at the top of the order rather than Brad Haddin.

The Aussies kept pegging at the Indians with some serious bowling, giving nothing away, bar a few Voges overs. Maybe the Indians can pick up from that- flip the bowling plans for the middle overs, with their main bowlers running through and getting the filler bowlers to close the innings. If the main bowlers take out the top six, the fillers can relax a little even as the innings closes.

The main difference in the bowling between the two teams is that with Watson bowling well at the moment, we can let one or two of the main bowlers of Lee/Johnson/Siddle bowl out in the middle overs and still have plenty of options with Hauritz, Watson, Hopes and even Voges at other stages. Having Watson bowling well just helps give us Australia that one extra non-part-time bowler.

Watson bowling well gives the Australian lineup some of the best balance we have seen in years. Makes such a difference not having to rely on 10 overs from the likes of Symonds and Clarke as has been the case the past 5-6 years.

Watson bowling well gives the Australian lineup some of the best balance we have seen in years. Makes such a difference not having to rely on 10 overs from the likes of Symonds and Clarke as has been the case the past 5-6 years.

Would still be a lot better with Symonds in the team, mind you. Could finally get rid of Hopes.

This Aussie bowling attack really is extremely impressive. Five genuine wicket-taking bowlers, and it looks like Voges is perfectly capable as a sixth bowler.

What do you do with Harbhajan? He's been, at best, batsman-who-can-bowl quality throughout the year, and is apparently hanging on because of reputation. Yet, he's the best spinner by some way, and can be relied on to attack, and can produce something special from out of nothing. His batting will come crucial, with the few extra runs he keeps adding up at the bottom, but some all-rounders who have lost their place may contribute a lot more on form.
