He's Jewish.
Well aware of that. He's 30, though......

No

Dead set.
Yeah wasn't the greatest that they had no room for Haydos. With some justification, Taylor didn't rate Kasper/Dale/Bichel basically because it was felt that their wicket tallies in Shield cricket were inflated by bowler-friendly conditions up north. Okay, fine. Problem is that the same logic apparently didn't extend to their batsman team-mate who was still considered little more than a flat-track bully at the time......

Personally wouldn't blame Tubby/Waugh too much for the NSW-centricism. Bobby Simpson the biggest culprit here, one feels.

Kaspa didn't escape it under Waugh either. I remember back in 99/00 season. He had a pretty good game at the 'Gabba and then got robbed of blatant wickets in the 2nd test, but after that he was replaced by Lee. It was obvious Lee was one of Waugh's favourites when he didn't get dumped after one of the worst ever Ashes series for a bowler in 2001.

The real advantage though of the anti Queensland bias during the 90s was that Hayden, Love, Bichel, Kasper, Dale et al gave us the shield a number of times.

Queensland sides of the 90s/2000s:

Jimmy Maher (played for Australia)
Matt Hayden (played for Australia)
Martin Love (played for Australia)
Stuart Law (played for Australia)
Shane Watson (played for Australia)
Andrew Symonds (played for Australia)
Allan Border (played for Australia)
James Hopes (played for Australia)
Ian Healy (played for Australia)
Ashley Noffke (played for Australia)
Mitchell Johnson (played for Australia)
Andy Bichel (played for Australia)
Micheal Kasprowicz (played for Australia)
Adam Dale (played for Australia)
Craig McDermott (played for Australia)
Carl Rackemann (played for Australia)
Scott Muller (played for Australia)

Cry me a river, they all ****ing ended up playing for Australia.

Granted many didn't get the games they deserved, but Bichel, Kaspa and Hayden were inconsistent as bitches when started off. Law and Maher never made the most of their ODI changes to push for Test cricket. Noffke is a tool. Dale wasn't suited to Test cricket, regardless of his FC stats. Apart from Love the rest had themselves to blame.

Mark 'oneill was NSW who could have played for australia and didn't neil maxwell as well.
Their no nsw selectors dunno the fuss.
Qld had someone on the panel for years 3 if you include peter taylor, trevor hohns and allan border.
Don't think their any state biases.
Their is a bias on the players already in the team, thus why our 20/20 is so ****e and michael clarke captain,i am nsw btw.

Love the depth of pace bowling in Queensland. No Sullivan, no Laughlin, no Swan, no Harris and yet can still field a pace bowling lineup of 3 future prospects (Cutting, Mcdermott and Walter) and one of the better ODD bowlers last season in Rimmington.

Should be a good game at the Gabba, two young teams, few new faces to keep an eye on.

I think this all this anti-queensland talk from a neutral perspective is just convenient nostalgia TBH. Before Kasper was recalled during that superb 2004 that he had - he was wayyyy more consistent a bowler than anytime between 96-2001 from what i remember.

In the games Kasper played between 96-01 he looked decent but not a world beater. Got fortunately or unfortunately labelled a sub-continental specialist.

Yea i remember this, does seem a bit biased i guess. But Lee was getting alot of hype before that MCG test anyway, so ATT with Kasper just seeming a decent option without being fantastic, its pretty clear why the young tearaway was given a go especially againts a vulnerable Indian side.

It was obvious Lee was one of Waugh's favourites when he didn't get dumped after one of the worst ever Ashes series for a bowler in 2001.
It was the first bad series of his career at that time, i dont think many people then would have expected Lee to suddenly start being that average in tests after then. Plus its not as is Kasper had enhanced his claims via his performances in IND 01 either. But at the end of the day with Mcgrath/Gillespie/Warne there, AUS clearly could have worked with Lee without being handicapped by Lee anyway as it proved.

Yeah, but it's not like Lee was keeping a QLDer out. Fleming was on that tour and given he was a swing bowler it was a stupid selection not to see him play in the 5th test at least.

Calm down. From me, most of it was in jest. I do think though that Hayden and Kasprowicz in particular were not so much harshly treated by selectors but were chaps who needed to be loved and shown warmth by their skipper and to a lesser extent the selectors. Taylor simply didn't do that. By contrast, look at what Tugga did for Haydos; what Ponting's done for Watson. Fact is, some guys need the skipper to put their arm around them, while there are others who need a kick in the pants. That's a big part of captaincy - reading personalities.
